PERKIM Celebrates the Marriage of Five Multi-Cultural couples

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 NOVEMBER 2023 – The institution of marriage is a holy one and should be celebrated.

The Islamic Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) organised a gathering to celebrate the marriage of five newly-weds.  They are of different races and cultures – Chinese, Malay, Indian, Iban and Tunisian.

About two hundred guests packed the Dataran Dakwah in PERKIM Headquarters which was decked with flowers and garlands.

This event was to show-case the uniqueness of Islam – that Islam is universal and is not the sole propriety of Malays or Malaysians.

The couples were: Nurul Julinica Ezra Nicholas and Muhammad Adib Daniel Mohammed Nasahruddin, Noor Fatimah Abdullah and Muhammad Jibril Abdullah; Lee Siew Vee and Abdel Aziz Gattoufi; Siti Aishah Abdullah and Muhammad Ibrahim Abdullah; Muhammad Pham Uluthiat and Khadijah Abdullah.

PERKIM’s Seniour Director of Dakwah, Dato’ Haji Razali Haji Shahabudin said that the solidarity that exists among the various races and nationalities of different countries and religions prove that differences in culture and beliefs are not a hinderance to unity and integration.

In any marriage, one can still practise the culture one is used to as long as it does not contradict Islamic values for Islam is a religion for the entire universe.

It would not be right to impose a different culture on somebody just because he reverts to Islam.  To do so might result in conflicts which is detrimental to any relationship.

The Director of this programme, Siti Munirah Sayed Mohd Hamdan said that reverting to Islam is not an excuse for neglecting or abandoning one’s parents even though they practise different beliefs.

In fact, this is the time to be closer to parents and siblings.  As husband and wife, each couple must forge an understanding and compromise so as to avoid problems and discord in the family.

At the end of the event, the couples were presented with household items.

Before that, a total of 25 new sibling couples attended the ‘Seminar Keluarga Bahagia Saudara Muslim’  held at the PERKIM Headquarters Meeting Room, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah near here this morning.

The seminar was delivered by the Registered Counsellor, YBhg Tuan Haji Hushim Haji Salleh with the title Concept of Household in Islamic Perspective and Responsibilities as Husband and Wife.

Haji Hushim who is also the Chairman of PERKIM Klang Branch emphasized the participants to prioritize prayer because prayer is a pillar of religion and the husband who leads the family should focus on praying in congregation with the family because there are many cases in which he handles couples who get divorced because they do not prioritize prayer.
