Surau PERKIM

Surau PERKIM is a special place of worship for the convenience of Muslims who fulfill the obligation of the second pillar of Islam which is to pray five times a day and night when the time comes.

The surau is located on level G, Bangunan PERKIM Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (Jalan Ipoh), Kuala Lumpur where it is a center for Muslims who visit offices, food stalls, exhibitions at PWTC, clinics and banks around Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Jalan Rahmat and Jalan Sentul.

Among the surau’s facilities are air conditioning, ablution facilities, fans, Al-Quran, books and so on.

Surau PERKIM has now been given permission by the Department of Islamic Religion of the Federal Territory (JAWI) and the Office of the Mufti of the Federal Territory to hold obligatory Friday prayers with effect from 13 September 2024 which can accommodate more than 300 worshipers inside the surau and at the Dakwah Square of the PERKIM Building.

When the country was hit by the COVID-19 epidemic and the Movement Control Order (MCO) was introduced, Surau PERKIM was given special permission for the first time to hold Friday Prayers from 2020 to 2022, but this permission was terminated on 21 October 2022 after the epidemic.

Various programs and activities organized by PERKIM, including government agencies, private sector, organizations or individuals to promote the PERKIM Surau i.e. Tadarus Al-Quran, Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayers, Hari Raya Aidiladha prayers, tarawih prayers, Hajat prayers, premier forum, reading Yasin, tahlil and so on.

In addition, the surau also became a practical training place for praying in the correct way and fardu ain for new converts to Islam.

Currently, the management of Surau PERKIM is under the management of the Surau PERKIM Committee which is chaired by the Honorary Assistant Secretary General of PERKIM, YBhg Datuk Haji Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim.

Ustaz Ahmad Muhammad is the imam who is assigned to lead prayers, religious talks and affairs related to the surau while Brother Muhammad Abu Bakar Abdullah is the muezzin and siak of Surau PERKIM.
