Royal Banquet with Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Graces Opening of 46th PERKIM Women’s Annual General Meeting

AMPANG, 25 APRIL 2026 – The royal banquet held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 46th Annual General Meeting of the Women’s of Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) was marked by splendour and grandeur with the gracious presence of Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, who officiated the event last night at the Houseboat by The Lake Glasshouse here.
The evening commenced with the arrival of distinguished guests, including the wife of the Selangor Menteri Besar, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, followed by Tengku Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz and Abang Abdul Rahman Johari Abang Openg, the Premier of Sarawak and President of Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia.
Upon the arrival of the Selangor Tengku Permaisuri, a photography session was held with members of the PERKIM Women’s Council and invited dignitaries before the ceremony proceeded with the singing of the national anthem Negaraku, the Selangor state anthem and the PERKIM Women’s anthem.
The event continued with a prayer recital led by Deputy Executive of IDIP-KL, Ustaz Abdul Qawi Navine Abdullah, invoking blessings for the ceremony.
Jointly organised by the Women’s Wing of PERKIM National and the Women’s Wing of PERKIM Selangor, the gathering was further enlivened by the presence of PERKIM vice-presidents namely Shahidan Kassim, Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Ustaz Muhamad Fitri Abdullah and Datuk Mohd Nakhaie Ahmad.

In her welcoming address, National PERKIM Women’s Chief Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj expressed her deepest gratitude for the royal consent granted by the Selangor Tengku Permaisuri in gracing and officiating the ceremony.
“Indeed, the presence of Her Royal Highness is a tremendous honour and will remain a meaningful memory for the entire PERKIM Women’s fraternity,” she said with great reverence.
In the same speech, Tunku Noor Hayati also conveyed appreciation to the Selangor state government for its support and sponsorship, while expressing pride over the attendance of the Sarawak Premier in his capacity as PERKIM president despite his demanding schedule.
Reflecting on history, she noted that the establishment of the Women’s Wing of PERKIM in 1980 was inspired by her late father, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, who recognised the need to empower women, particularly in welfare and community development.
“Alhamdulillah, after 46 years, PERKIM Women now has more than 22,000 members nationwide, encompassing 13 divisions and 90 branches, with the largest membership base in Sarawak,” she said.
According to her, the organisation continues to play an active role through programmes focusing on strengthening faith, Islamic education, welfare initiatives and strategic collaborations with academic institutions such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, which has produced important publications related to the development of Muslim convert women in Malaysia.
She added that innovative initiatives, including participation in the Global Sadaqah platform as well as collaborations with government agencies and financial institutions, reflected the organisation’s continuous commitment towards empowering the community.
The ceremony also witnessed the official launch gimmick officiated by the Selangor Tengku Permaisuri, alongside the presentation of mock cheques from various contributors in support of PERKIM’s dakwah and welfare efforts.
Ustaz Muhamad Fitri Abdullah, chairman of PERKIM Selangor, presented a contribution amounting to RM20,000 from PERKIM Selangor to Abang Johari in his capacity as PERKIM president.
Meanwhile, Yusof Haslam, representing SKOP Productions Sdn. Bhd., also handed over a RM15,000 contribution to Abang Johari.
Several corporate entities and individuals likewise extended contributions of RM5,000 each to Tunku Noor Hayati. They included representatives from MOOTIARA Sdn. Bhd., TWKMY Holidays Sdn. Bhd., Nasi Dagang Atas Tol (NDAT) Sdn. Bhd. and Sanggul Event Management Sdn. Bhd.
In addition, Datuk Seri Abdul Wahab Mat Yasin, representing Gabungan Hartalega Sdn. Bhd., contributed RM5,000 to Abang Johari.
These contributions reflected the unwavering commitment of both the corporate sector and individuals in advancing welfare and ummah development initiatives spearheaded by PERKIM.
The event also saw the presentation of a contribution from PERKIM Women National by Tunku Noor Hayati to IDIP Kota Bharu, Kelantan, which was received by Abang Johari as a sign of continued support for dakwah and welfare initiatives involving Muslim convert students.
The evening concluded with a royal banquet that brought together guests in an atmosphere of harmony and ukhuwah, in line with PERKIM Women’s aspiration to continue strengthening its role in ummah development and national well-being.
Also present were PERKIM Honorary Secretary-General Datuk Dr Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar and PERKIM Honorary Treasurer Datu Haji Mersal Abang Rosli.
