SUNGAI SIPUT, OCTOBER 18, 2025 – The Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National Headquarters, in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), successfully organised the Harmony Dialogue Programme: “Strengthening Ties, Cultivating Love” at the Kampung Ladang Sungai Krudda Hall here on Saturday morning.
The event exuded a warm and harmonious atmosphere as Muslims and non-Muslims came together, working hand in hand in the spirit of unity and friendship.
Starting at 9.00 a.m., the programme was held with the cooperation of the Perak Islamic Information Network (PIIN) and the PERKIM Perak State Youth Council, drawing a crowd of more than 100 participants, mostly from the Indian community.
According to Programme Coordinator, Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah, the event aimed to strengthen community bonds and foster compassion among the multiracial plantation community, while expanding understanding of Islam as a religion of mercy for all humanity.
Early in the morning, villagers began filling the main hall, greeting one another with cheerful smiles as they enjoyed breakfast together, a reflection of shared harmony transcending religious and cultural boundaries.
The session commenced with welcoming remarks by Muhammad Hani Waran G. Ratnasami from PERKIM Perak, who highlighted the importance of courteous dialogue in nurturing mutual understanding among Malaysia’s multiracial society.
This was followed by the keynote address delivered in Tamil by Ustazah Khairunisa Ahmad Kamaldeen, an independent preacher and mualaf instructor from PIIN, on the topic “Strengthening Ties, Cultivating Love.”
Her talk explored the beauty of Islam as a religion of mercy (rahmah) that advocates love, justice, and universal humanity.
Ustazah Khairunisa reminded the audience of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) saying:
“None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”
(Hadith narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Following her lecture, an open and friendly dialogue session took place, where villagers eagerly shared their views and posed questions.
Among the topics discussed were neighbourly conduct, interfaith social etiquette, and the celebration of cultural festivals such as Deepavali in a multiracial context.
The highlight of the programme was a heartfelt speech by Pandian Krishnan, Chairman of the Kampung Krudda Residents’ Committee, who expressed deep appreciation for PERKIM’s visit and ongoing efforts.
He described PERKIM’s presence as “not merely preaching through words, but through genuine action”, referring to the organisation’s recent door-to-door visits, their distribution of food baskets and financial aid, and their compassionate outreach in conjunction with Deepavali.
Meanwhile, Ustaz Jais Mariappan, representing the Honourary Secretary-General of PERKIM National, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohammad Marzuki Mohammad Omar, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to MAIWP for its main financial contribution and to all agencies and volunteers who made the programme a success.
He stressed that such initiatives must continue to strengthen Malaysia’s social fabric and maintain the harmony of its multiracial communities.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Tuan Haji Mior, representing YB Kapt (B) Dato’ Haji Mohd Najmuddin Elias, Chairman of PERKIM Perak.
In his remarks, Tuan Haji Mior said that the success of the programme stood as tangible proof of the strength of Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiah) and the spirit of unity between Islamic NGOs and local communities.
A souvenir presentation followed, as a gesture of appreciation to Pandian Krishnan and Ustaz Mohamad Noor PK Osman, Chairman of PIIN, before the event concluded with the distribution of food baskets to residents.
The moment turned emotional as several aid recipients shed tears of gratitude for the kindness and concern shown to them.
The programme ended with a group photo and a fellowship lunch that further strengthened camaraderie among participants from all walks of life.
The closing reflection of the event drew upon a verse from the Qur’an, Surah An-Nahl, verse 90:
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and generosity to relatives; and He forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression.”
The Harmony Dialogue in Kampung Krudda served not only as a platform for learning but also as a living manifestation of compassion and mutual understanding, a bridge connecting hearts across religious and cultural lines.
