Uplifting Lives: PERKIM Eases Burden of Disabled Mualaf

By: Muhammad Farhan Tee Abdullah

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 May 2025 – PERKIM recently welcomed a mualaf couple seeking assistance to purchase a new wheelchair.

Nur Aisyah Abdullah, 33, embraced Islam on 25 June 2019. She is a person with physical disabilities (OKU) and has depended on a wheelchair for mobility since childhood due to a congenital leg condition.

Her husband, Muhammad Saleem Abdullah, who converted to Islam in Pahang, now runs a small business selling kacang putih together with his wife to sustain their daily needs.

The couple currently receives financial support from Lembaga Zakat Selangor, which helps cover their monthly expenses and house rental.

However, the high cost of essential items such as adult diapers, alongside other living expenses, remains a challenge. They are also raising a child and caring for Aisyah’s non-Muslim mother.

Despite the challenges, their care and affection towards Aisyah’s mother reflect the Islamic value of maintaining strong family ties, even after embracing Islam.

Upon reviewing their situation, PERKIM took immediate action and accompanied the couple to a nearby pharmacy to purchase a brand-new wheelchair.

The wheelchair was sponsored by Yayasan Taqwa Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) through PERKIM’s welfare initiative.

We pray that Aisyah continues to enjoy good health and is always supported by her devoted husband.

Members of the public who wish to extend financial assistance to the couple may channel their contributions to Maybank account number 1621 5179 2425 (Muhammad Saleem Abdullah). For further information, Saleem can be contacted at 018-3646310.
