KUALA LUMPUR, 9 JANUARY 2026 — Some 40 new Muslim students from the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Islamic Da’wah Institute Kota Bharu (IDIP-KB) today undertook an academic and organisational exposure visit to the National Headquarters of PERKIM, located on Level 1 of the PERKIM Building along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here.

The IDIP-KB delegation, led by its Executive, Noorsaadah Md. Hanafi @ Md. Zain, was warmly received by PERKIM National Administration Director, YBhg. Dr Suariza @ Hidayah Muhammad, together with PERKIM National executives and staff.

The visit formed part of PERKIM’s ongoing efforts to strengthen networks of silaturahim while enhancing character development and deepening the understanding of da’wah among new Muslim students.

The programme commenced with opening remarks by the master of ceremonies, Fatin Akmal Aksah, followed by a prayer led by Abu Bakar Abdullah, seeking divine blessings so that the programme would bring lasting benefit to all involved.

In her address, Dr Suariza underscored PERKIM’s role as a da’wah organisation that propagates Islamic teachings through a holistic approach encompassing education, welfare and community development. She said these efforts are driven through various institutions under PERKIM, including IDIP-KB and the International Da’wah Institute PERKIM Kuala Lumpur (IDIP-KL).

She also explained the role of IDIP-KL in training da’i (Islamic preachers), sharing her personal experience as a former Director of the institute, which, she said, holds a special place in her heart. Exposure programmes of this nature, she added, are vital to help students understand the continuity of PERKIM’s institutional da’wah role from the grassroots to the national and international levels.

Dr Suariza further emphasised the need to strengthen relationships and mutual understanding between students of da’wah institutions and PERKIM National so that they are better acquainted with the structure, functions and actual roles of the parent organisation. She also recorded her appreciation to PERKIM Wilayah Persekutuan for its cooperation in jointly organising programmes with the students later in the day, thereby reinforcing ties among PERKIM National, PERKIM Wilayah, IDIP-KB and IDIP-KL as one extended da’wah family.

All entities under PERKIM, she said, share the same objective of empowering Islamic da’wah efforts, although past constraints in mutual familiarity had existed. As such, the meeting was viewed as an initial step towards forging closer ties, while providing a platform for executives to introduce their respective roles and functions to the students.

She also motivated the students to continue pursuing higher education and to regard their current level of studies as a stepping stone towards greater academic and intellectual achievement. Describing the students as assets, successors and the future of PERKIM, Dr Suariza said they would play a key role in sustaining and expanding Islamic da’wah in the years ahead.

She concluded by expressing hope that the meeting would not be the last, but rather the beginning of sustained cooperation that brings benefit and divine blessings.

Earlier, Noorsaadah, in her welcoming remarks, expressed her highest appreciation and gratitude to PERKIM National for the invitation and organisation of what she described as a highly meaningful programme for IDIP-KB students. She said the visit served as an important platform for knowledge-sharing, experiential learning and the strengthening of silaturahim between the IDIP-KB community and PERKIM’s top management.

Indirectly, she added, the visit enhanced the students’ understanding of PERKIM’s roles, functions and da’wah ecosystem at the national level. She expressed hope that strategic cooperation and strong relations between PERKIM National and IDIP-KB would continue, particularly in empowering da’wah efforts and character development among students, the asnaf and new Muslims nationwide.

Her address was reinforced with a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which emphasises that the best of people are those who are most beneficial to others, in line with the programme’s objective of mutual assistance, guidance and support. She also expressed hope that the programme would strengthen the students’ faith and identity, serving as a continuation of the ukhuwah built following the Ta’aruf and Brotherhood Week at IDIP-KB.

Students were urged to fully benefit from the knowledge and experience gained as ibrah and guidance for present and future life. Noorsaadah concluded by praying that all collective efforts would be blessed by Allah SWT and yield lasting benefits.

The programme continued with a briefing on the background and history of PERKIM National by PERKIM National Administration Executive, Ahmad Hasaidi Said, who outlined PERKIM’s establishment as a da’wah organisation rooted in concern for the welfare of new Muslims, and its evolving role in tandem with the needs of Malaysia’s Muslim community. He provided students with a clear overview of PERKIM’s evolution into a credible and experienced da’wah institution.

This was followed by a slide presentation by PERKIM Women’s Development Executive, Fatin Hamizah Ismail, who introduced Wanita PERKIM Kebangsaan as a vital wing in strengthening the da’wah, welfare and women’s development agenda. She traced the establishment of Wanita PERKIM in 1974, initiated by the late Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib with the advice of YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, specifically to safeguard the welfare of new Muslim women.

She elaborated on PERKIM’s vision and mission as a national and international da’wah NGO, as well as Wanita PERKIM’s role as the driving force for women’s empowerment and as a protector of new Muslim women facing social and emotional challenges. Key programmes and initiatives were also highlighted, including the SEKATA Programme, corporate collaborations through social fund platforms, the publication of a development blueprint for female converts, and outreach programmes for senior citizens.

PERKIM National Da’wah Executive, Ustaz Muhammad Farhan Tee Abdullah, then presented on welfare aspects as a core component of PERKIM’s da’wah approach. He outlined the implementation of outreach visits, financial assistance, counselling, disaster relief and the pivotal role of volunteers as the backbone of new Muslim welfare. He also introduced PERKIM’s welfare institutions, including the PERKIM Stroke Community Rehabilitation Centre (SCORE), Asrama Darul Falah (ASDAF) and Putra PERKIM Childcare Centre (TASPUTRA).

Students were subsequently briefed on the role of the Da’wah Division by PERKIM National Da’wah Executive I, Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah, who stressed the importance of strengthening aqidah and religious understanding among new Muslims to prevent doctrinal confusion. A former IDIP-KB student himself, he shared field da’wah experiences through outreach and community service to non-Muslims, approaches he said had proven effective in attracting interest and opening hearts towards Islam.

Meanwhile, PERKIM National Da’wah Executive III, Ustazah Nur Syahirah Musa, elaborated on the structured process of conversion to Islam, covering the phases before, during and after embracing Islam, including registration, continuous guidance and the strengthening of aqidah as the foundation of Muslim life.

The final presentation was delivered by PERKIM National Da’wah Executive II, Ustazah Siti Munirah Sayed Mohd. Hamdan, who spoke on the role of PERKIM’s Education and Da’wah Division. She explained that her responsibilities include providing structured and inclusive Islamic education through daily classes, outreach programmes and intensive courses to ensure new Muslims remain continuously connected to knowledge and guidance.

The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by a group photography session and lunch, marking the success of a visit that provided IDIP-KB students with comprehensive exposure to PERKIM’s holistic da’wah approach, grounded in knowledge, welfare and community support.
