MELAKA, JULY 10, 2026 – The Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National, in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), organised a Welfare Outreach Programme at the Prasanna Care Centre in Taman Pertam Jaya, Ujong Pasir, here at 4pm today.
The programme, conducted with the cooperation of PERKIM Melaka State Division and PERKIM Ujong Pasir Branch, aimed to engage with the residents of the care centre while delivering food aid kits sponsored by MAIWP to those in need.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks by programme emcee Nurul ‘Izzah Salimi, who noted that the initiative formed part of the ongoing efforts by PERKIM and MAIWP to strengthen humanitarian values and extend assistance to vulnerable communities regardless of race or religion.

In his speech, the Mufti of Melaka and Chairman of PERKIM Melaka State Division, Sahibus Samahah Datuk Wira Abdul Halim Tawil, expressed his appreciation to the management of the care centre for their commitment to caring for and guiding individuals requiring special attention.
He said compassion, welfare and humanity are universal values shared by all communities and serve as important foundations for building a harmonious society.
“The residents of this care centre are special individuals who require care and compassion from the community. They provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate empathy and fulfil our social responsibility towards fellow human beings.
“I hope the entire workforce at this centre will remain committed to providing the best care, guidance and services to its residents. I am also confident that various organisations and individuals will continue to come forward to help ensure their welfare remains protected,” he said.
Datuk Abdul Halim also conveyed his appreciation to PERKIM National and MAIWP for selecting Melaka as the venue for the welfare programme.
He added that since its establishment, PERKIM has continued to play an important role in serving Malaysia’s multi-racial and multi-religious society through various welfare, educational and da’wah initiatives nationwide.

Meanwhile, Prasanna Care Centre Founder and Chief Caregiver, Maliga Angel said the centre accommodates elderly persons, single mothers and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who have been neglected and require continuous care.
She said the organisation currently operates six centres throughout Melaka, serving residents from diverse backgrounds, including senior citizens, individuals suffering from depression, persons with disabilities and those lacking family support.
According to her, the centre presently houses 45 female residents comprising 30 Indians, 12 Chinese and three Malays.
“We strive to provide the best possible care to every resident despite facing numerous challenges. Support from non-governmental organisations, corporate entities and members of the public is invaluable in helping us sustain our operations.
“Contributions and visits such as those by PERKIM and MAIWP today not only assist in terms of welfare but also provide encouragement to both residents and caregivers,” she said.

Programme Coordinator, Muhammad Farhan Tee Abdullah said the welfare visit was one of PERKIM’s and MAIWP’s initiatives to reach out to those in need while fostering compassion and unity within society.
He said the programme also provided participants with an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the lives of the residents and better understand the challenges they face.
“Our presence today is to share joy, engage with the residents and offer a small contribution as a sign of our concern and care.
“We deeply appreciate the efforts of the management, who have devoted more than 20 years to safeguarding the welfare of those in need.
“Centres such as this play a vital role in ensuring that individuals who receive limited attention from family members and society continue to receive protection, care and the support they deserve,” he said.
Farhan, who is also a Da’wah Executive at PERKIM National, praised the dedication of the management in operating six care centres across Melaka to assist individuals requiring ongoing protection and care.
At the conclusion of the programme, Datuk Abdul Halim, accompanied by Farhan, presented 25 food aid packs containing oat cereal, biscuits, boxed milk and towels to the residents as a gesture of concern for their well-being.
