KOTA BHARU, JANUARY 29, 2026 – The Honorary Secretary-General of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM), YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, together with the Honorary Treasurer of PERKIM, YBhg. Datu Haji Mersal Abang Rosli, paid their inaugural courtesy visit to the PERKIM Kelantan State Division Office at Taman Laksamana here on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrival of the two top national leaders of PERKIM at 2.00pm was warmly welcomed by the Honorary Secretary of PERKIM Kelantan, Tuan Haji Mohamad Nazir Che Ibrahim, along with members of staff and the state committee members.
During the introductory session, Haji Nazir presented the line-up of PERKIM Kelantan’s leadership and personnel, reflecting the close relationship and strong spirit of camaraderie between the national and state leadership.
The courtesy visit focused on efforts to strengthen the direction of dakwah (Islamic outreach), financial management, and strategic development of PERKIM at both state and national levels, in line with the current challenges faced by the Muslim community in Malaysia.
In his address, Dato’ Dr. Marzuki emphasised the realities of contemporary da’wah challenges, which require a more prudent, inclusive and effective approach in building public trust across all age groups and backgrounds.
According to him, the success of da’wah should not be measured solely by numbers, but rather through sincerity of effort and the long-term impact on strengthening the faith and character of the community.
He also shared his personal experiences in da’wah and in guiding new Muslim converts as a source of motivation and lesson, particularly in ensuring that outreach efforts remain grounded in wisdom, compassion and a deep understanding of local realities.
During the meeting, Dato’ Dr. Marzuki highlighted the potential development of facilities at the PERKIM Islamic Da’wah Institute in Kota Bharu (IDIP-KB), including proposals for the construction of a male hostel, dining hall and a mosque that is more accessible to the surrounding community.
He stressed that such initiatives are crucial to ensuring that PERKIM institutions truly function as vibrant and relevant centres for community engagement, education and da’wah.
The importance of integrating with the wider community through religious, welfare and social activities was also underscored so that PERKIM’s mosque and facilities can be optimally utilised and serve as catalysts for unity and social harmony.
Meanwhile, Datu Mersal focused his discussion on sustainable and Shariah-compliant financial management and da’wah funding.
He shared his experience in institutionalising corporate zakat payments in Sarawak through collaboration with authorised bodies, as well as methods of prudently utilising zakat funds for da’wah and welfare purposes.
According to him, welfare-based initiatives such as food bank programmes that transcend religious and racial boundaries have proven effective in showcasing the beauty of Islamic teachings while strengthening understanding and harmony within Malaysia’s plural society.
He also proposed the establishment of an integrated National PERKIM platform to manage donations, zakat and waqf collections nationwide through a transparent, centralised and audited digital payment gateway system.
The proposal aims to enhance donor confidence, facilitate monitoring, ensure Shariah compliance and prevent any leakage of funds.
In this context, PERKIM National was suggested to serve as the main coordinator, with collected funds to be distributed fairly and systematically to the respective states based on their needs and priorities.
Overall, the meeting reflected the unity and strong commitment of PERKIM’s leadership in enhancing organisational governance, strengthening dakwah strategies in accordance with current realities, and building a sustainable, transparent and integrity-driven financial ecosystem for the continuity of PERKIM’s dakwah and welfare mission at both state and national levels.
As a gesture of appreciation and goodwill, the gathering was enlivened with a special spread featuring fried noodles, fried vermicelli, fried macaroni, pulut durian, traditional Kelantanese delicacies and local fruits, symbolising the unique culture and hospitality of the state.
Also present were PERKIM Kedah Vice Chairman II Haji Turedy Abdullah; PERKIM National Women’s Council member Hajah Norizan Ismail; PERKIM National Administration Director YBhg Dr Suariza @ Hidayah Muhammad; PERKIM National Administration Executive Ahmad Hasaidi Said; PERKIM National Finance Executive Mohd Aizat Rosli; PERKIM Kelantan Executive Ustazah Wan Zubaidah Wan Yusoff, as well as staff members of PERKIM Kelantan.
