PERKIM National Council (AMK) Election 2025–2028 Proceeds Harmoniously, 4 Vice Presidents & 13 Council Members Elected

BANGI, 10 MAY 2025 – The election process for the National Council Members (Ahli Majlis Kebangsaan, AMK) of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) for the 2025–2028 term was carried out in a calm, harmonious, and well-organised manner.
The election took place in conjunction with the 64th PERKIM National Annual General Meeting, with the participation of delegates from all state chapters.
Prior to the election, the Chairman of the PERKIM AMK Election Committee, YBhg Dato’ Haji Mohd Nawawi Ismail, presented a briefing paper on the election process to all voting delegates.
The official results were announced at 1:15 p.m., when the Deputy Permanent Chairman, YBhg Tuan Haji Abd. Ghafar Mamat, declared that the position of President of PERKIM was won unopposed by YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, who is also the Premier of Sarawak.
Tuan Haji Abd. Ghafar Mamat was elected as Permanent Chairman after receiving 86 votes, while Mahadi Haji Deraman was also elected Deputy Permanent Chairman unopposed.
For the position of Vice President, the following four candidates received the highest number of votes:
- YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim – 131 votes
- Dr. Haji Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah – 121 votes
- Haji Muhammad Fitri Abdullah – 104 votes
- Datuk Haji Mohd Nakhai Ahmad – 103 votes
A total of 13 National Council Members were also elected through voting:
- Dato’ Prof. Dr. Haji Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah – 142 votes
- Haji Hushim Haji Salleh – 141 votes
- Dr. Ann Wan Seng – 133 votes
- Datuk Prof. ChM. Ts. Dr. Taufiq Yap Yun Hin – 127 votes
- Haji Mohamad Shaiful Bahri Abdullah – 124 votes
- Dato’ Sri Hajah Rohani Abdul Karim – 121 votes
- Datuk Haji Hasbullah L. Isa – 119 votes
- Dr. Nur’azah Dato’ Abdul Manaf – 118 votes
- Dr. Amin Malik Shah Abdul Majid – 106 votes
- Datin Paduka Hajah Norsiah Haron – 103 votes
- Dato’ Haji Khairi Hasan – 99 votes
- SS Datuk Wira Haji Abdul Halim Tawil – 97 votes
- Haji Turedy Abdullah – 96 votes
The vote-counting process was conducted with utmost care and systematic procedures.
Each ballot paper was tallied transparently and meticulously by trained personnel under close supervision by the National Council Election Committee and representatives from the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR).
This was to ensure the integrity and transparency of the entire voting process were fully upheld.
The election reflected PERKIM’s democratic maturity and the strong confidence of delegates in the elected candidates.
It is hoped that the newly elected National Council Members will bring renewed spirit and direction in leading Islamic leadership through PERKIM, strengthening the unity of the ummah and expanding strategic and responsive dakwah efforts in addressing current community needs.
With commitment and unity, PERKIM is expected to continue being a leading platform for dakwah, playing a significant role in serving the Muslim community and upholding the image of Islam both nationally and internationally.

Dato’ Mohd Nawawi presented the AMK election briefing paper to the delegates.

He asked the AMK and delegates to vote by ticking the correct box.

Dato’ Nawawi further said that for the Permanent Chairman candidate, 1 vote is required while 4 votes are required for the Vice President candidate and AMK candidate, 13 votes are required.

Tun Dr Mahathir made his choice by voting on the candidates on the ballot paper.

Dr Yusof Noor has confirmed his preferred candidates.

The AMK election atmosphere was harmonious and orderly.

Delegates choose the candidates of their choice.

The Vice Presidents did not miss the opportunity to participate in the AMK election.
