KOTA BHARU, 26 APRIL 2025The Right Honourable Dato’ Panglima Perang Ustaz Dato’ Mohd Nassuruddin Haji Daud, Chief Minister of Kelantan, officiated the Dinner Ceremony in conjunction with the 45th National Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Women’s Wing on Saturday night.

The dinner, held at H Elite Design Hotel in Tunjong, near here, was attended by over 300 guests comprising delegates and observers of PERKIM Women from across Malaysia.

In his officiating speech, the Chief Minister expressed his pride in the organisation of the annual general meeting scheduled for the next day, describing it as a manifestation of the organisational maturity of PERKIM Women throughout its 45 years of establishment.

“The age of 45 reflects a certain level of maturity in a person’s life journey.
Likewise, I see the maturity in the da’wah efforts and organisational governance of PERKIM Women,” he remarked.

He added that with increasing age, the experience gained from overcoming various challenges becomes a valuable asset in elevating the organisation to greater heights.

The Chief Minister also stressed that da’wah work cannot be conducted individually, but must be carried out collectively and in an organised manner, in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He cited verses from the Holy Quran – Surah Ali Imran, verse 104, and Surah An-Nahl, verse 97 – which highlight the importance of calling towards goodness and doing righteous deeds with faith, promising a good life and multiplied rewards.

As a symbolic gesture of appreciation, he recited a pantun:

“Jarum hilang di tengah jerami,

Kain kebaya di dalam peti,

Selamat datang ke negeri kami,

Semoga bahagia melekat di hati.”

He concluded his address by congratulating the leadership and members of PERKIM Women for their unwavering commitment in strengthening da’wah efforts and the role of women in community development.

He also expressed his hope that the AGM would serve as a strategic platform to plan impactful initiatives for the benefit of the ummah, particularly in Kelantan and nationwide.

Also in attendance was the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, YBM Tengku Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Among the other dignitaries present were PERKIM Vice President, YBhg Prof Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, YBhg Prof Dr Ramle Abdullah and PERKIM Honorary Treasurer YBhg Dato’ Haji Abdul Hanif Harun.

Earlier, Ketua Wanita PERKIM, YTM Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman, delivered her welcoming remarks.

Tunku Noor Hayati invited the attendees to recite Al-Fatihah in honour of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his family, his companions, past mujahideen, deceased PERKIM and PERKIM Women leaders, and Muslims in Gaza, Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria.

As the Tengku Puan Temenggong of Kelantan, she emphasised that the dinner was not merely a social event, but a reflection of PERKIM Women’s continuous effort in fostering unity, strengthening the spirit of da’wah and charity, and nurturing compassion.

PERKIM Women serves as a platform to champion the rights and welfare of Muslimah reverts, while providing emotional, spiritual, and social support.

Tunku Noor Hayati added that, to date, PERKIM Women has over 22,000 members across all 14 states in Malaysia.

Their struggle began in 1980, inspired by the vision and legacy of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, the late YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, and PERKIM’s first Women’s Chief, the late Datuk Amar Puan Sri Dr Hajjah Laila Taib.

She also shared that PERKIM Women is currently planning more youth-focused activities, including the Street Da’wah programme, which involved 60 students from seven public and private universities.

In addition, PERKIM Women has been entrusted by JAWI and MAIWP to engage with and support mualaf applicants at risk of apostasy, successfully guiding three out of twenty such cases so far.

She also touched on the unique challenge in Kelantan, where PERKIM Women still operates under the state PERKIM Division rather than as an independent women’s division like in other states.

However, with the active support of the Kelantan PERKIM Division’s Chairman and Committee Members, she is hopeful that efforts to empower PERKIM Women in Kelantan will achieve success.

She invited all to pray for Allah’s blessings upon these da’wah efforts, for continued national peace, and for the well-being of the Muslim ummah.

The evening was further enlivened with the presentation of a token of appreciation from Tunku Noor Hayati to Dato’ Mohd Nassuruddin.

Adding to the occasion was the presence of the Chief Minister’s wife, YABhg Datin Panglima Perang Wan Nor Hanita Wan Yaacob, who also serves as the Chairperson of Kelantan State PERKIM Women.
