Renewing Resolutions, Determinations for 2024 –  Sec. Gen. PERKIM

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 JANUARY 2024 – All 56 officers and staff of Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) assembled at the Musolah of the PERKIM Headquarters on that particular Friday to recite the surah Yasin

And supplicate to Allah for a safe and profitable year.

The prayer was led by the Assistant Secretary General of PERKIM, Dato Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim while Haji Ishak Othman led the reading of the Surah Yasin

The Honarary Secretary General of PERKIM, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusuf Noor
said that we should be grateful for being able to welcome 2024.  Each one of us should already have planned for the new resolutions for a better year ahead.

For PERKIM, it should be to widen the scope of help towards new reverts and how to approach those who have not accepted Islam.

In Malaysia, 40% of the population are non-Muslims.  Many of the forty percent are atheists. We should think of ways to impart the message of Islam to them.

PERKIM cannot claim that the 45,000 Chinese reverts was the consequence of this institution’s hard work alone, but we should be happy if it were so.

We have to acknowledge the contributions of other bodies in this field and should take steps to equip ourselves with better skills in dakwah.

It is unnecessary to quote the ‘hadis’ to practise dakwah.  What is required of us is to project the goodness and the sincerity in ourselves.

“The year 2024 seems a disheartening year for us as our tenants have vacated this building and this area seems desolate.  Therefore we are naming this section “Dataran Dakwah” – where SCOP lectures, counselling, information centre, motivation, education and welfare activities will be carried out”.

Tan Sri also announced that PERKIM Selangor had organised a counselling centre to offer services to families, young adults, married couples for free.  He added that PERKIM Sarawak has commenced counselling sessions for their staff, new reverts and the community.  The response has been positive.  Other states too can plan to adopt this service for their community if there are qualified volunteers.

PERKIM is taking steps to elevate the status of the musolah here so that Friday prayers can be held here.

It would be convenient for new reverts to pray in a centre where it is familiar to them and they see familiar faces.

At the close of this gathering, Tan Sri presented a token to Md Eakzan Jaafar, the assistant custodian of PERKIM premises who had lost his mother in November 2023.

Also present at this gathering were the HonTreasurer of PERKIM, Dato’ Haji Abdul Hanif Harun; Senior Director of Dakwah, YBhg Dato’ Haji Razali Haji Shahabudin; Dato’ Haji Ahmad Mustafa; Dr Suariza @ Hidayah Muhammad and Mr. Firdaus Lokman Tah.
