PERKIM Organised a Sacrifice Ritual (Ibadah Korban)

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 JUN 2024 – Aidil Adha is a special celebration for Muslims. This is to commemorate the subservience of Prophet Ibrahim to Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ismael. It is also a month when Muslims who can afford it, perform the Hajj which is the fifth pillar of Islam.

It was in this spirit that PERKIM organised the Sacrifice Ritual with their Islamic studies students at he PERKIM Headquarters grounds in Kuala Lumpur.

This program was supported by MAIWP (Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan).  Two hundred reverts of Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban, Bidayuh, Murut and nationals from Thailand, Indonesia and The Philippines took part in this event.

Program Co-ordinator, Siti Munirah Sayed Mohd Hamdan
said this activity promotes unity based on piety for harmony and togetherness among the various races and nationalities in Islam.  Indeed, PERKIM’s motto is ‘Islam Itu Persaudaraan’ – “Islam is Brotherhood”

She said that this ritual, in a way, enhances the spirit of sacrifice among Muslims, promotes relationships, togetherness, prevents selfishness, so as to promote inner-strength in every Muslim.

Six cows were purchased and slaughtered by the Islamic Studies students (KPIPK) and the meat was distributed among the poor and reverts.  The students were happy to participate in this program and they had saved money for this purpose from the beginning of last year.

The saving idea was mooted by Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah who encouraged his students to save RM80 each month.

The Program commenced with some of them going to Ladang Adriana Gombak to witness the slaughter of the cows. This act is based on Surah Al-Hajj, verse 36 which means:  “And we have made the camels (which are given to the poor of Makkah) a part of the rites of Allah, in sacrificing them there is much good for you.  Therefore, pronounce over them the name of Allah (during the sacrifice) as they stand of three legs, and when they fall down on their sides (and die), eat a part of their flesh and feed with it (the other parts) the contented who does not beg and the beggar.  Thus we have subjected them to you ( to have mastery over them and to offer them as sacrifice), so that you may be grateful.”

The Honarary Treasurer of PERKIM, Dato’ Haji Abdul Hanif Harun
celebrated Hari Raya Aidil Adha with reverts and was able to participate in cutting up the meat to be distributed to the poor.  In his speech, he said that Aidil Adha is a day of success for Muslims who are able to sacrifice and to perform the Haj.   Together with Mr ZulkefIi Ariffin distributed 415 packets of meat to the needy and the reverts of Pakistani and Bangladesh origin.

At the close of this event, everyone sat down to a feast of fresh beef bone soup, rendang, mutton masala, fried chicken and many more delicacies.
