SUNGAI PETANI, JUNE 25, 2026 – Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to social welfare, the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) organised a Welfare Outreach Visit to Pusat Jagaan Insan Tersayang in SP Heights here on Thursday morning.

The programme, jointly organised by PERKIM National and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), was also supported by PERKIM Kedah State Division, PERKIM Kuala Muda District Branch and the Malaysian Indian Muslim Converts Welfare and Da’wah Association (Al-Hidayah) Kedah.

The event commenced with opening remarks by PERKIM National Secretariat representative Muhamad Fardly Johan, who served as master of ceremonies, followed by a welcoming address by Pusat Jagaan Insan Tersayang coordinator, Syed Ikram Syed Mahadhir.

Syed Ikram expressed his appreciation for the visit by representatives from PERKIM National, PERKIM Kedah, PERKIM Kuala Muda and Al-Hidayah Kedah, describing it as a meaningful gesture of support for the institution and its residents.

He explained that the centre functions as a specialised care facility for men requiring close supervision, including individuals with psychiatric treatment histories, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and former drug dependents.

“The centre provides a safe and conducive environment to help residents lead more structured lives while receiving continuous health monitoring and support,” he said.

Meanwhile, programme coordinator Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah said the visit reflected the responsibility entrusted to PERKIM and MAIWP to ensure that vulnerable groups remain included in the care and concern of society.

Representing PERKIM National Honorary Secretary-General, Datuk Dr. Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, he conveyed appreciation to the management of the care centre for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of its residents.

“The sacrifices made by the management and caregivers here are immense. Their responsibilities go beyond time and physical effort; they require emotional strength, patience and a high degree of sincerity.

“Our presence today is not merely to deliver contributions, but also to express our support and appreciation to those who work tirelessly to care for the residents,” said Ustaz Jais Mariappan.

He also prayed for the residents to be blessed with recovery, peace and strength, while caregivers would continue to be granted patience and resilience in carrying out their noble responsibilities.

The welfare visit reflected the ongoing commitment of PERKIM and MAIWP to strengthen community welfare initiatives while promoting the values of compassion, benevolence and social responsibility towards vulnerable groups regardless of background.

Such efforts are also seen as instrumental in strengthening collaboration among da’wah organisations, welfare institutions and the wider community to ensure that those in need continue to receive appropriate care and attention.

Among those present were PERKIM Kedah State Division Deputy Executive Officer Hazirah Azmi; PERKIM Kuala Muda District Branch Assistant Secretary Ustazah Juhana Halimah Johari and PERKIM Kuala Muda District Branch Committee Member, Hajah Siti Meriam Shariff.

Also in attendance were Al-Hidayah Kedah Secretary, Ustaz Mohd Firdaus Abdullah and Al-Hidayah Kedah Treasurer, Ustazah Nurasiqin Abdullah.

Meanwhile, Pusat Jagaan Insan Tersayang Founder, Khairul Azmat Abdul Aziz said the facility provides a wide range of daily care and monitoring services for individuals requiring special attention.

He said the centre primarily serves individuals with psychiatric treatment records, elderly persons requiring daily assistance, persons with disabilities including those with autism and bedridden patients, as well as former drug dependents undergoing follow-up supervision in a controlled environment.

“In addition to providing suitable shelter for asnaf groups and underprivileged individuals, we also assist residents in obtaining hospital treatment and monitor their health conditions on a regular basis.

“Every resident admitted to the centre is required to obtain psychiatric verification from a doctor or hospital to ensure that care can be provided systematically and safely,” he said.

According to Khairul Azmat, his more than a decade of experience in managing individuals with mental health and psychological challenges inspired the establishment of the centre in 2018.

“When we first began operations, the centre housed only a handful of residents. Alhamdulillah, today we care for approximately 60 residents from various backgrounds, including six Muslim converts.

“We strive to maintain affordable fees to assist families who are unable to provide full-time care for their loved ones,” he added.

At the conclusion of the programme, Ustaz Jais Mariappan presented food aid sponsored by MAIWP to the residents of Pusat Jagaan Insan Tersayang.

The contribution included essential food items such as powdered milk, oats and biscuits to help meet the daily needs of the residents.

The aid formed part of the ongoing efforts by PERKIM and MAIWP to strengthen welfare initiatives and ease the burden of institutions that play a vital role in caring for those in need, particularly senior citizens, persons with disabilities, individuals with mental health conditions and former drug dependents.

As a token of appreciation for the commitment and dedication shown in managing the care centre, Ustaz Jais Mariappan, on behalf of the PERKIM National Honorary Secretary-General, also presented a commemorative PERKIM plaque to Khairul Azmat. The programme concluded with a group photography session.

Also representing PERKIM National were Deputy Executive (Finance) Azura Abdul Rahman; Assistant Executive (Da’wah I) Ustaz Haji Amran Anbarasu Abdullah; Assistant Executive (Da’wah II) Siti Fatimah Ladda Abdullah; and Administrative Assistant Fatin Akmal Aksah.
