PERKIM Celebrates the Wedding of Chinese Reverts Muhammad Yan and Nur Yi Ling

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 JUNE 2024 – PERKIM organised the wedding of Chinese reverts at the PERKIM Musolah in Kuala Lumpur.

About 150 guests were present, comprising students from PERKIM Islamic Studies group and reverts.

Mohammad Yan, 41 was able to pronounce his marriage vows fluently to become the husband of Nur Yi Ling, 25.

Ustaz Abdul Basir Mahadi, from the Marriage and Family Development Unit of the Jabatan Agama Islam WP (JAWI) presided over the marriage ceremony.

The Ustaz had earlier counselled the couple on the marriage sermon before the ceremony.

The newly weds were presented a wedding gift of RM 5,000.00 from MAIWP, witnessed by Dato Haji Razali, Ustaz Mohd Saiful Hafiz Vijia Abdullah and Ustaz Mohd Jais Mariappan.

Dato Hj Razali Hj Shahabudin, PERKIM’s senior Director of Dakwah disclosed that reverts are free to observe their own culture as long as it is not contradictory to Islam for Islam is a simple religion which respects the culture of the various ethnic groups.

Parents must be respected even though they practise a different religion and their original culture.  Although reverts are now Muslims, their relations with their siblings must remain close and strong.
