KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 9, 2026 – The Women’s Wing of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) today reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the role of women in dakwah, welfare and community development despite increasingly challenging financial constraints.

The commitment was expressed during the PERKIM National Women’s Council Meeting No. 2/2026, held at the Level 6 Meeting Room of the PERKIM Building on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here and chaired by the Head of PERKIM Women, YTM Tunku Puan Sri Datuk Hajjah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Deputy Permanent Chairperson Datin Mazlin Darus and Appointed Council Member Datuk Dr Hajah Munirah Mohd Hassan participated virtually.

In her opening address, Tunku Noor Hayati called on all council members to continue strengthening unity and collectively advancing PERKIM Women’s agenda to ensure the organisation remains relevant in addressing contemporary challenges.

She noted that limited financial resources require programmes and activities to be planned more strategically and implemented with greater impact on society.

“Our primary agenda is to advance PERKIM Women. We must continue striving forward in a spirit of solidarity to ensure that our dakwah and welfare mission remains sustainable,” she said.

The meeting confirmed the minutes of the PERKIM National Women’s Council Meeting No. 1/2026 and deliberated on several follow-up matters relating to the organisation’s administration and management.

In addition, Dr Nur’azah presented the financial report covering the period from Jan 1 to May 31, 2026, along with a summary of expenditure for women’s programmes up to May this year, enabling council members to assess the organisation’s current financial position.

The meeting also reviewed the minutes of the 46th PERKIM National Women’s Annual General Meeting and discussed the appointment of subcommittee chairpersons aimed at streamlining the implementation of future programmes.

The atmosphere became particularly emotional when Tunku Noor Hayati expressed her appreciation to Honorary Secretary Datuk Hajah Maznah Dasmi and Honorary Treasurer Dr Nur’azah Abdul Manaf, both of whom had announced their intention to step down from the leadership of PERKIM Women for the 2026–2029 term.

She described both leaders as individuals who had made immense contributions towards strengthening the organisation over many years.

“Their contributions are invaluable and will always be remembered. They have played a significant role in strengthening our administration and championing the interests of PERKIM Women throughout the country,” she said.

In her appreciation speech, Dr Nur’azah revealed that she began serving as Honorary Treasurer of PERKIM Women in 2007 and had carried the responsibility for nearly two decades.

Throughout her tenure, various initiatives were introduced to enhance financial management systems, including the digitalisation of records and the establishment of more systematic documentation to facilitate continuity for future leadership.

Among the key achievements, she highlighted efforts to secure larger financial allocations for the benefit of PERKIM Women at the national, divisional and branch levels nationwide.

“Everything I have done was to ensure that PERKIM Women continues to progress and maintains a strong management system. Although I may no longer hold office, I will always be ready to assist the organisation whenever needed,” she said.

She also expressed her gratitude to the leadership team and staff members who had worked closely with her throughout her years of service.

As a mark of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices in elevating the standing of PERKIM Women, Datuk Hajah Maznah Dasmi and Dr Nur’azah Abdul Manaf were honoured in a simple yet meaningful ceremony.

The two leaders were invited to cut a special “Jasamu Dikenang” (“Your Service Will Be Remembered”) commemorative cake prepared in recognition of their contributions to the organisation.

The ceremony also saw Tunku Noor Hayati presenting exclusive commemorative gifts to Datuk Maznah and Dr Nur’azah as symbols of appreciation for their service, dedication and unwavering commitment throughout their tenure in the leadership of PERKIM Women.

A sense of gratitude and emotion was evident among council members as the two leaders received the honours, reflecting the high regard accorded to their years of service in strengthening the administration, financial management and strategic direction of PERKIM Women at the national level.

The meeting also paid tribute to former leaders who had contributed to the development of PERKIM Women and underscored the importance of nurturing future leaders to ensure the continuity of the organisation’s mission.

With the spirit of unity demonstrated throughout the meeting, PERKIM Women is expected to continue playing a vital role in empowering Muslim women, strengthening family institutions and supporting the dakwah and welfare initiatives that have formed the cornerstone of PERKIM’s mission since its establishment.
