SHAH ALAM, MAY 9, 2026 – The spirit of ummah unity, wisdom-based da’wah and the strengthening of moral values continued to form the foundation of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Selangor State Division as more than 200 delegates and observers attended the opening ceremony of the 37th Annual General Meeting at the PERKIM Selangor State Complex in Section 8 here on Saturday afternoon.

The prestigious event gathered representatives from PERKIM branches throughout Selangor, alongside leaders of Islamic organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that have consistently collaborated in strengthening da’wah, welfare and convert development initiatives in the state.

The annual general meeting was officially opened by the Director-General of the Department of Waqf, Zakat and Hajj (JAWHAR), Dato’ Mohd Zaidi Ramli, who delivered an inspiring address on the importance of unity, wisdom-based da’wah approaches and the cultivation of noble character within Malaysia’s multiracial Muslim society.

In his speech, Dato’ Zaidi said the development of Islam in Malaysia demonstrated the religion’s success in uniting people of diverse races, cultures and backgrounds under one shared faith.

“Islam is not a religion for any particular race, but a religion of mercy that brings well-being to all mankind regardless of ethnicity or lineage. We are able to live together, worship together and respect one another.

“This is proof that Islam is capable of uniting hearts and building a peaceful and harmonious society,” he said while officiating the meeting.

He also praised PERKIM Selangor for its consistent efforts in carrying out various da’wah, welfare and new convert development programmes over the years.

According to him, efforts to assist converts to Islam require an approach rooted in wisdom, patience and compassion to enable them to understand Islam gradually without feeling burdened.

During the speech, he shared his experience in da’wah efforts involving the Orang Asli community, which he said must be carried out gently and with great care.

He stressed that da’wah delivered in a harsh or overly complicated manner could distance people from Islam, and therefore Muslims should demonstrate good character while always making matters easier for others.

“When we display good morals and conduct, society will naturally feel closer to Islam and more comfortable with its teachings,” he added.

Dato’ Zaidi also reminded attendees that struggles within Islamic organisations must be founded upon sincere intentions and pure hearts.

According to him, every member of an organisation must preserve good relationships with others and avoid actions that could damage unity, as Allah SWT’s blessings would accompany any struggle led with sincerity and brotherhood.

At the same time, he emphasised the importance of making full use of the blessed morning hours, referring to the prayer of Prophet Muhammad SAW seeking blessings for his ummah in the early part of the day.

He said the culture of starting work and activities early could enhance productivity and bring blessings into one’s life.

Earlier, PERKIM Selangor State Division Chairman, Ustaz Muhammad Fitri Abdullah, expressed gratitude for the smooth organisation of the annual general meeting and the presence of delegates and invited guests from across Selangor.

He also conveyed appreciation to Dato’ Zaidi for graciously accepting the invitation at short notice to officiate the ceremony following scheduling changes involving the original guest due to official commitments.

According to him, the willingness of the JAWHAR Director-General to attend reflected the close relationship between PERKIM Selangor and various institutions that continue to support Islamic da’wah and welfare agendas.

“Good relations with various agencies and organisations are extremely important to ensure da’wah movements can be carried out in a more organised and effective manner,” he said.

Ustaz Fitri also described PERKIM members as the backbone of the organisation, consistently carrying out welfare, educational and humanitarian work tirelessly and with steadfast commitment.

He said the sacrifices made by PERKIM members in assisting converts, the poor and the needy constituted a noble deed that benefits not only Muslims, but society as a whole.

During the event, he also launched the “Sayangilah Raja Kita” (Love Our King) campaign as a symbol of support and loyalty towards the Selangor royal institution, which serves as a symbol of unity for the people of the state.

He said the campaign aimed to instil love for the royal institution while strengthening values of respect towards leaders and the state among society.
