Tun Dr Mahathir Chairs Special Meeting of PERKIM National Council

BANGI, 10 MAY 2025 – The Special Meeting of the National Council in preparation for the 64th Annual General Meeting of the Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (PERKIM) was held this morning at Level 1, Abu Bakar As-Siddiq Syura Room, Academic Building A, Malaysian Islamic Training Institute (ILIM), near here.

The meeting was attended by over 50 members of PERKIM’s National Council.

It commenced with a recitation of prayers led by PERKIM’s Assistant Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim.

This was followed by the opening address by PERKIM President, YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.


In his speech, Tun Dr Mahathir stressed the need to mobilise efforts to fund PERKIM’s da’wah (Islamic outreach), welfare and educational activities.

He proposed that PERKIM members nationwide contribute to the organisation as a religious obligation—through donations, cash endowments (wakaf) or charitable spending (infak) in the path of Allah.

A key agenda item was the presentation of the Briefing Paper by the National Council Member Selection Committee for the 2025–2028 term delivered by the committee’s chairman, YBhg Datuk Haji Mohd Nawawi Haji Ismail.

In addition, PERKIM Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Noor, presented the 2024 Annual Report as preparation for the 64th PERKIM National Annual General Meeting, scheduled at 10:40 AM.

PERKIM Honorary Treasurer, YBhg Dato’ Abdul Hanif Harun, also presented the audited financial accounts for PERKIM National as of 31 December 2024, and the proposed budget for the year 2026, which was subsequently approved.

The special meeting served as a vital platform to ensure the upcoming Annual General Meeting proceeds smoothly, transparently, and in accordance with the expectations of members and the PERKIM constitution.

Also in attendance were PERKIM Vice Presidents YB Dato’ Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim, Tuan Haji Muhammad Fitri Abdullah, YBhg Prof Dr Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, and Prof Dr Ramle Abdullah; PERKIM National Women’s Chief, YTM Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj; and Deputy Minister of Economy and Chairperson of PERKIM Sarawak Chapter, YB Dato’ Hajah Hanifah Hajar Taib.

At the end of the special meeting, a photography session was held with the PERKIM National Council members.


The Special Meeting of the National Council for the 64th National PERKIM Annual General Meeting was held at ILIM, Bandar Baru Bangi.


Members of the National Council welcomed the arrival of the PERKIM President.


The Special Meeting began to convene.


Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim as the Honorary Assistant Secretary-General of PERKIM led the opening prayer.


The President, along with Tan Sri Honorary Secretary General and Dato’ Honorary Treasurer, raised their hands as the prayer was read.


Tun Dr Mahathir said that an effort needs to be made to fund the PERKIM dakwah movement.


Tun Dr Mahathir proposed that PERKIM members throughout Malaysia donate to PERKIM as a charity request.


The special meeting is an important platform to ensure that the PERKIM Annual General Meeting runs smoothly.


Dr Mahathir listened to the views of the meeting members.


Dr Mohd Yusof Noor presented the 2024 Annual Report to the National Council Members.


Dato’ Abdul Hanif presented the audited financial accounts of the National PERKIM up to 31 December 2024.


Dato’ Dr Haji Nooh Gadot as a National Council Member expressed his opinion to the meeting.


Tuan Haji Muhammad Fitri Abdullah as the Vice President of PERKIM stated his proposal in the meeting.


PERKIM National Council Member, Tan Sri Dr Ismail Ibrahim expressed his gratitude for all the services and contributions of Tun Dr Mahathir during his leadership of PERKIM for 19 years.


The Vice President of PERKIM, YB Dato’ Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim gave suggestions at the meeting.


PERKIM Women’s Head, Tunku Noor Hayati, requested that PERKIM continue its vision and mission for converts and Islamic welfare as inherited by her late father, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.
