Strive for Excellence: PERKIM’s Vision for 2025 – Honorary Secretary-General
by: SAFIYYA NUR SAKEENA SALLEHUDDIN
KUALA LUMPUR, JANUARY 6, 2025 – “Happy New Year 2025 to all members of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National Headquarters. Let’s work together to propel our organization forward,” said PERKIM’s Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Yusof Noor, during his address at the monthly assembly held at Dataran Dakwah, PERKIM Headquarters, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, on Monday morning.
The event gathered over 40 staff members, including representatives from the International Islamic Dakwah Institute (IDIP-KL) and the PERKIM Stroke Community Rehabilitation Centre (SCORE). It was hosted by Nur Syahirah Musa from the Dakwah and Human Development Unit, with Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah leading the opening prayer.
Reflecting on Achievements, Setting New Goals
Dr. Yusof Noor emphasized the importance of reflecting on past performance and striving for even greater accomplishments. “If we’ve done our best, let us resolve to do better this year,” he remarked, thanking over 100 administrators nationwide for their contributions in 2024.
He highlighted how even small teams can achieve remarkable results through dedication and emphasized quality over quantity. Citing Quranic wisdom, he referenced Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 249: “How often, by Allah’s permission, has a small force vanquished a much larger one?”
Expanding Outreach Efforts
Dr. Yusof Noor observed that while the global Muslim population grows in regions like Europe, the Americas, and France, the rate of new converts in Malaysia remains modest. He urged PERKIM to focus on impactful, high-quality dakwah initiatives that resonate with Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
“We must broaden our outreach beyond the Muslim community,” he noted. “Rather than solely addressing ourselves, we should engage in meaningful dialogue with non-Muslims in Malaysia, ensuring our message is clear, compassionate, and effective.”
Collaborations and Future Plans
PERKIM aims to enhance partnerships with organizations that share similar goals, including institutions through IDIP-KL. This collaborative approach will help PERKIM expand its reach and create a more profound impact.
He also urged members to focus on self-improvement rather than dwelling on the shortcomings of others. “True strength lies in humility, not ego. Let’s work towards eliminating ego in this new year.”
Welcoming New Members
Dr. Yusof Noor concluded by welcoming two new staff members to PERKIM: Mohamad Azrol Mohd Azmi, Assistant Finance Officer, and Farah Irisha Hazlizam, Administrative Assistant in the Dakwah and Human Development Unit.
The assembly, which began with the national anthem and PERKIM’s theme song, served as a motivational call to action, inspiring members to contribute their best and deliver impactful results in 2025.
