KUALA LUMPUR, OCTOBER 9, 2025 – More than 160 female participants filled the Level 1 Seminar Hall of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Headquarters, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah this morning for the Special Women’s Series of the Premier Dakwah Lecture (SKOP) jointly organised by PERKIM National Council and the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
The 23rd instalment of the SKOP series, themed “Social Media & The Dignity of Muslim Women: How Far Are Our Limits?”, was held in collaboration with PERKIM Women’s Division, and attended by female new Muslims, PERKIM women members, and students from Darul Quran JAKIM.

Programme Coordinator Nur Syahirah Musa said the special edition of SKOP serves as a vital platform for developing a deeper understanding of contemporary issues affecting women.
“Social media today is no longer just a source of entertainment, it has shaped our way of thinking, our lifestyles, and even the standing of Muslim women in society,” she said, urging participants to make the most of the knowledge shared by the invited panelists.
She added that this prestigious event offers an intellectual discourse on the roles and challenges faced by Muslim women amid the digital revolution.
The programme began with a spirited opening by Safiyya Nur Sakeena Sallehuddin, Deputy Executive of the PERKIM International Dakwah Institute Kuala Lumpur (IDIP-KL), followed by a prayer recitation led by Siti Munirah Sayed Mohd Hamdan, Dakwah Executive of PERKIM National, seeking Allah’s blessings for the session.
In her welcoming remarks, PERKIM Women’s Division Honorary Secretary, Dato’ Hajah Maznah Dasmi, expressed appreciation to PERKIM National for the special invitation extended to the women’s wing to co-organise the event.

Representing the Head of PERKIM Women’s Division, YTM Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Dato’ Hajah Maznah expressed gratitude that, by Allah’s will, participants could gather on such a blessed morning.
Commenting on the theme, she stressed that discussions surrounding social media and women’s dignity remain highly relevant, as these platforms can both elevate and tarnish a woman’s honour.
Quoting from Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 6, she reminded attendees that Muslims are commanded to verify any information before sharing it, to prevent slander and the degradation of dignity.
She hoped that the special SKOP edition would help broaden perspectives, strengthen spiritual resilience, and empower Muslim women to navigate the challenges of the digital world.
“At the same time, programmes like this help strengthen the bond of ukhuwah (brotherhood and sisterhood) between PERKIM and the community, especially among women,” she said.

The event was officiated by PERKIM National Senior Dakwah Executive, Dato’ Haji Razali Haji Shahabudin, representing PERKIM National Honorary Secretary-General, Dato’ Dr Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar.
In his officiating address, Dato’ Razali expressed gratitude for the success of SKOP’s 23rd edition, which continues to serve as a bridge connecting members and the community.
He noted that earlier SKOP sessions in Perlis and Pahang drew hundreds of participants, proving the programme’s popularity and impact.
He explained that this Special Women’s SKOP marks the second women-focused edition, following the success of its inaugural run last year.
“Women have always been the backbone of PERKIM’s dakwah success. The majority of our participants in past series have been women,” he said, reaffirming PERKIM’s commitment to close collaboration with its Women’s Division in organising future outreach programmes, particularly for women and underprivileged groups.
Dato’ Razali also thanked MAIWP for its continued support through zakat funding, which helps sustain PERKIM’s dakwah initiatives.
He encouraged attendees to pray for the prosperity of zakat contributors so that PERKIM’s charitable and educational activities may continue uninterrupted.
He also highlighted PERKIM’s ongoing efforts in providing medical equipment, educational aid for new Muslim children, and various other forms of welfare assistance, efforts that will continue to be strengthened through strategic partnerships.
The Women’s SKOP Forum was moderated by Nur Ain Sumaiyah Abdullah, recipient of the 2024 Maal Hijrah Special Award (Women Preacher Category). Her moderation brought clarity and engagement, making the discussion both lively and insightful.
Two distinguished panelists, Ustazah Isfadiah Mohd Dasuki, preacher and motivational consultant, and Ustazah Azila Shamsudian, Islamic family spiritual advisor, captivated the audience with their in-depth discussions on the main theme.
Ustazah Isfadiah compared social media to an open market where users freely share all kinds of content, including personal matters that could compromise self-dignity.
“Social media has a profound impact on emotions, family life, and society. Yet, it can also serve as Allah’s ‘army’, a tool to spread goodness if used with integrity and principle,” she said.
She urged Muslim women to produce beneficial content rooted in Quranic values to create lasting positive influence.
Sharing a personal story, she recounted guiding her child, who aspired to become a YouTuber, to understand the true purpose and challenges of the digital world.
“The ultimate purpose of social media should be tabligh conveying good messages not merely chasing fame,” she reminded.
She emphasised the role of mothers in controlling gadget use at home, noting that studies show internet use is highest within households.
“Women are the ‘queen control’ who set family rules to safeguard the honour of future generations,” she added.
Meanwhile, Ustazah Azila Shamsudian highlighted the importance of pure intention in every action, including the use of social media.
“All deeds are judged by intention; therefore, every post should be made sincerely for Allah,” she reminded.
She emphasised the value of open communication in families, warning that many youths lose their moral direction due to lack of guidance at home.
“Parents should be the first to listen and guide their children, not leave them to find answers on social media,” she said.
She added that the greatest challenge is not only raising children but also leading oneself. Thus, parents must strengthen their faith and knowledge to become exemplary role models.
In the second round of discussion, Ustazah Isfadiah reminded that women may adorn themselves and appear beautiful, as long as it complies with Islamic principles and avoids tabarruj jahiliah (excessive display of beauty).
She cited Sayyidatina Khadijah, Fatimah az-Zahra, Asiyah (wife of Pharaoh), and Maryam binti Imran as shining examples of “faith-based popularity” for modern women to emulate.
Ustazah Azila, in turn, drew attention to the growing issue of cyberbullying and online shaming.
“Physical wounds may heal, but hurtful words leave lasting scars,” she said, noting that both praise and criticism can test one’s heart.
She urged Muslim women to remain steadfast in spreading goodness online, as every small act of kindness continues to yield reward even after death.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs by Dato’ Razali, accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nur’azah Dato’ Abdul Manaf, Honorary Treasurer of PERKIM Women’s Division, to both panelists. Moderator Nur Ain Sumaiyah received a Special PERKIM Edition Quran in appreciation of her contribution.
Also in attendance were PERKIM National Women’s Permanent Chairperson Hajah Hasnah Mohamed, and Council Members Datin Hajah Mawanchik Che Jais, Hajah Norizan Ismail, Datin Paduka Hajah Norsiah Haji Haron, and Datin Paduka Hajah Hapipah, who also serves as Chairperson of the Johor Bahru Women’s Branch.
The event was further supported by the secretariat team comprising Muhammad Farhan Tee Abdullah, Mohd Aizat Rosli, Fatin Hamizah Ismail, Norlailialpin Suratman, Umi Musfirah Abdul Ghani, Siti Masliana Ariffin, and Farah Irisha Hazlizam.
With its enriching knowledge sessions and strengthened fellowship, the 23rd Special Women’s SKOP reaffirmed the vital role of Muslim women, not only as educators and nurturers, but as guardians of dignity in the digital age.
