CHIANG RAI, MAY 28, 2026 – The Jaulah, Da’wah and Qurban 2026 programme organised by the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National, in collaboration with the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) and the Jom Buat Baik Facebook group, continued to strengthen cross-border humanitarian and missionary efforts by reaching out to rural communities in Mae Pao, Phaya Mengrai, here.

Held in conjunction with Aidiladha, the programme took place at the As-Siddiqin Foundation Madrasah at 10.30am, following the Aidiladha prayers and a communal breakfast attended by students of the madrasah, members of the Muslim community and villagers from the surrounding areas.

PERKIM National Da’wah Executive,
Ustaz Muhammad Farhan Tee Abdullah said the programme was not only aimed at enlivening the spirit of Aidiladha but also served as an avenue to engage local communities through welfare and da’wah initiatives.

“Alhamdulillah, we were informed that the As-Siddiqin Madrasah would be carrying out the qurban ritual involving approximately 20 cattle this morning.

“Of that number, 17 are qurban cattle, while another three are designated as gift cattle to be distributed to non-Muslim villagers so that they too may share in the blessings and joy of Aidiladha,” he said when met here.

He said the programme involved teachers, students, villagers, volunteers and organisers who worked together to ensure the successful implementation of the qurban activities.

According to him, extending assistance and compassion to communities regardless of religious background remains one of the most effective ways of introducing the beauty and universal values of Islam.

“The gift cattle will be distributed to non-Muslim families in villages around this area as a gesture of friendship, goodwill and mutual respect among communities,” he said.

Also present was PERKIM Honorary Secretary-General and RISEAP Secretary-General, Dato’ Dr Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, who was welcomed upon his arrival at the madrasah by As-Siddiqin Foundation Co-Founder Haji Abdullah Othman.

During a meet-and-greet session with participants, Dato’ Marzuki expressed pride in being part of the humanitarian and da’wah initiative in northern Thailand.

“I would like to extend my Aidiladha greetings to all Muslims in Chiang Rai. I am honoured to represent PERKIM and RISEAP in joining the community here in celebrating Hari Raya Korban.

“This is one of the ways we engage with rural communities through welfare and community-based programmes,” he said.

He noted that similar programmes had been organised four times at the As-Siddiqin Foundation Madrasah, while the current visit marked his second trip to the area.

According to him, the da’wah approach through qurban activities and village outreach programmes has proven effective in fostering closer ties between Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

“Insya-Allah, after this we will continue visiting villages to distribute food assistance and engage more closely with local residents.

“We approach them personally, physically and with wisdom. Hopefully, these efforts will provide opportunities for the local community to better understand Islam,” he said.

He also expressed hope that continuous welfare and da’wah efforts would encourage more members of the local community to learn about Islam in the future.

As part of the programme, Dato’ Marzuki witnessed the slaughtering of gift cattle sponsored by PERKIM and RISEAP before presenting the contributions to 50 non-Muslim villagers.

Also in attendance were PERKIM National Finance Executive, Mohd Aizat Rosli, as well as RISEAP staff members Ahmad Azahari Mohd Sharif, Nur Fatihah Shedi and Ameen Soleh.

In a related development, Dato’ Marzuki paid a courtesy visit to the Phaya Mengrai Sub-District Administrative Office, where he met Mae Pao Sub-District Headman Preecha Laksanakhan.

During the meeting, the delegation presented gift meat from the qurban carried out earlier in the day as a symbol of friendship and harmonious relations between communities of different faiths.

Preecha said he currently oversees approximately 20 villages comprising nearly 200 households within the sub-district and had served as a village headman for more than 30 years before being appointed to his current position.

The visit was conducted in a spirit of harmony, with Muslims and non-Muslims working side by side throughout the Aidiladha celebrations.

Non-Muslim residents assisted in the management of the qurban programme, while members of the Muslim community took the opportunity to deliver gifts and aid to Buddhist families in the area.

Interestingly, Preecha’s wife is reportedly among the region’s leading exporters of tropical fruits, including mangoes, longans and lychees, to international markets.

Also joining the outreach programme were representatives of the Young Muslim Association of Thailand (YMAT), namely Ruslan Abdullah Saising, Hamas Budkek and Kindey Osman.

Datuk Dr Mohamad Marzuki later distributed 50 food aid packs and 50 goodies packs to children in Mae Nam Phon Village, Ban Sakae, located about five kilometres from the As-Siddiqin Foundation.

The village is predominantly inhabited by members of the Lahu ethnic community, and the arrival of the PERKIM and RISEAP delegation brought visible joy to local residents, particularly children who were excited to receive the contributions.

In the afternoon, the programme continued at the San Saard Cattle and Buffalo Processing Facility in Mai Ya Sub-District, Phaya Mengrai District, where another qurban exercise involving 10 cattle was carried out.

Also participating were Jom Buat Baik Group Founder Ustaz Azatul Ridzuan Hassan and As-Siddiqin Foundation Madrasah Principal Ustaz Usman Che Mat.

All committee members and volunteers worked hand in hand in the slaughtering, processing and distribution of the qurban meat, reflecting the spirit of cooperation and Islamic brotherhood.

The meat and bones from the cattle were subsequently transported to the As-Siddiqin Madrasah to serve as food supplies for its 130 students.

The Qurban 2026 programme successfully served as a platform to strengthen ukhuwah (Islamic brotherhood), promote universal humanitarian values and present Islam as a religion of compassion and mercy to multi-faith communities in the rural areas of Chiang Rai.
