DUNGUN, 13 NOVEMBER 2025 – In an effort to nurture compassion and strengthen care for the elderly, the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National Headquarters, in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), organised a Welfare Visit to Rumah Ehsan Dungun in Bandar Al-Mukhtafi Billah Shah on Thursday afternoon.

The PERKIM delegation was warmly welcomed by the institution’s Senior Administrative Assistant, Rohsenai Lizei Nadzir, and Community Development Assistant, Mohd Ariffin Mohd Yusof Al-Fakree, before the programme began with a briefing on the home’s background and operations.

According to Programme Coordinator, Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah, the initiative supported by PERKIM Terengganu State Division aimed to instil kindness, empathy and humanitarian values among the residents of Rumah Ehsan, which is administered by the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

He explained that the visit was not limited to providing material assistance, but also served as da’wah bil hal by fostering understanding, empathy and emotional connection with residents who are spending their final years in peace and dignity.

“Our presence here is not only to deliver aid, but to internalise the values of empathy and humanity,” said Ustaz Jais. “We want these senior citizens to continue feeling the warmth and care of the community around them.”

In her briefing, Rohsenai Lizei said Rumah Ehsan Dungun currently accommodates 76 residents aged between 60 and 90, from various ethnic and religious backgrounds across Peninsular Malaysia.

The majority are bedridden patients requiring intensive care and continuous monitoring, she said.

She added that the facility is equipped with nurses, wardens and four residential blocks, two for male residents and two for female residents.

Rohsenai further explained that Rumah Ehsan was established to provide care, treatment and protection for elderly individuals who are frail, destitute or without next of kin, allowing them to live in comfort and dignity.

The PERKIM entourage was then brought on a tour of Asrama Anggerik (Women) and Asrama Cempaka (Men) by Mohd Ariffin, where they interacted with residents, exchanged greetings and distributed essential food items such as milk powder, oats and biscuits.

A touching atmosphere filled the home as residents welcomed the visitors with warm smiles and heartfelt prayers, while PERKIM representatives attended to them with sincerity and kindness.

Among those present to distribute contributions was the Secretary of PERKIM Dungun Branch, Ustaz Muhammad Afif Ismail, supported by PERKIM Terengganu Executive Officer, Tuan Haji Mohd Subri Jaafar.

The programme was also joined by members of the PERKIM secretariat — Fatin Hamizah Ismail, Rosnaliza Ahmadiah, Aishah Abdul Wahab, Azura Abdul Rahman, Nurfadhilah Alias, Muhamad Fardly Johan, Ustaz Amirul Hafiz Kamaruddin, Dhabitah Hanani Zakaria and Musa Orb.

As a token of appreciation, Ustaz Jais, on behalf of PERKIM Honorary Secretary-General Dato’ Dr Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, presented a PERKIM commemorative plaque to Mohd Ariffin.

The nearly two-hour programme left a profound impact on the entire delegation.

PERKIM expressed hope that such initiatives will continue, strengthening collaboration between welfare organisations and care institutions while extending values of compassion, love and empathy within the wider community.

It added that such noble efforts should inspire more humanitarian and welfare initiatives in the future, further reinforcing PERKIM’s standing as an Islamic organisation committed to serving the underprivileged, regardless of background.
