SUNGAI PETANI, 6 SEPTEMBER 2025 – The spirit of Islamic brotherhood was vividly displayed at the dinner hosted by the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Kuala Muda District Branch, as the PERKIM Hall in Jalan Pegawai, Kampung Teroi, came alive with guests including leaders from the PERKIM Headquarters.

The gathering, held in a warm and congenial atmosphere, was more than just a dinner. It served as a gesture of appreciation for the presence of PERKIM’s national leadership, who came on the ground to meet with branch members and new Muslim converts.

The occasion symbolised the unity of purpose, shared commitment, and solidarity in the mission of dakwah (Islamic outreach) between the central leadership and its grassroots branches.

The evening began with a prayer led by PERKIM National Dakwah and Human Capital Development Officer, Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah, who sought blessings from Allah SWT for the success of the programme and strength in cooperation among all parties in advancing PERKIM’s charitable and dakwah initiatives.

In his welcoming address, Kuala Muda PERKIM Chairman, Ustaz Imron Kochem Haji Abdullah, expressed gratitude for the presence of national leaders. He emphasised that the continued support of PERKIM National was a crucial motivation for the Kuala Muda branch to remain active in its dakwah and welfare work in the district, alongside the strong backing of the Kedah State PERKIM.

“The presence of national leadership here is proof that we are moving in the same direction. At the branch level, we will continue to give our full commitment to ensure this trust is upheld,” he said.

Representing PERKIM’s Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg Dato’ Dr Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, PERKIM National Director of Education and Human Development, YBhg Dr Suariza @ Hidayah Muhammad, also conveyed his deep appreciation to Kuala Muda PERKIM.

He extended special thanks to Ustaz Imron Kochem for the respectful invitation, which he said reflected the spirit of openness and kinship within the organisation.

He added that such an invitation was a testament to the enduring ties between PERKIM National and its branches, strengthened through bonds of friendship and collaborative programmes.

“Events like this are not merely about honouring guests; they are platforms to strengthen relationships, understand challenges at the grassroots level, and embrace our shared aspirations in the struggle for dakwah and welfare,” he said.

The branch’s active involvement in community engagement was further reflected through its participation in the Multi-Ethnic Indian Community Welfare Visit at Pusat Penjagaan Fajar Gemilang earlier in the day, and its upcoming Harmony Dialogue with the Indian Community in Kampung Kongsi 6, Bedong tomorrow. These initiatives underscored Kuala Muda PERKIM’s commitment to strengthening inter-community relations, aligning with PERKIM’s mission as a leading Islamic outreach organisation in Malaysia.

The dinner itself showcased a variety of special dishes, including Thai-style Arabic Mandy rice, fried chicken, Thai sago dessert, teh tarik, fresh fruits, and more. Guests enjoyed the meal in a warm and convivial atmosphere.

Adding to the occasion was the screening of Kuala Muda PERKIM’s corporate video, which highlighted the branch’s history, facility upgrades, and its wide-ranging programmes covering dakwah, welfare, education, collaboration, and community development. The presentation offered guests a clearer view of the branch’s dedication to advancing PERKIM’s mission at the district level.

The night also featured a token exchange ceremony. Dr Suariza presented Kuala Muda PERKIM Chairman Ustaz Imron Kochem with a commemorative plaque and PERKIM’s coffee table book Warisan dan Wawasan 60 Tahun PERKIM. In return, Ustaz Imron presented a plaque and souvenir gift to Dr Suariza.

Following the dinner, the PERKIM National delegation toured Kuala Muda PERKIM’s facilities, guided by Ustaz Imron Kochem and Honorary Assistant Secretary, Ustazah Juhana Halimah Johari. Among the facilities visited were the branch administration office, family transit home, male and female transit residences, and a multipurpose hall frequently used for lectures, dakwah activities and welfare programmes for new Muslims.

The group also visited the Kopi Tamu stall, which serves as a social space for relaxation and interaction with the local community. These facilities reflected PERKIM Kuala Muda’s holistic approach, extending beyond religious outreach to include social engagement and community-building.

The presence of such facilities demonstrated the branch’s commitment to strengthening its organisational role—not only as a centre of dakwah but also as a hub for human development that connects society with Islamic values of compassion and inclusivity.

For PERKIM National, the visit offered valuable insights into local needs while acknowledging the branch’s efforts in addressing challenges at the grassroots level.

Also present were Kuala Muda PERKIM Permanent Chairman, Dato’ Dr Zahari Noor, and Honorary Treasurer, Tuan Haji Abdul Raof Mohd Zain. Their attendance further illustrated the strong commitment to supporting the national leadership, which consistently provides encouragement and guidance to district branches.

The dinner proved to be a meaningful platform for strengthening ties and reinforcing the close synergy between PERKIM Headquarters and its branches. Through such gatherings, bonds of unity are preserved, further consolidating collective efforts in advancing dakwah, welfare, education and cooperation.

The event was also attended by PERKIM National secretariat members Azura Abdul Rahman, Norlailialpin Suratman, and Mualish Shah Haji Mohd Anuar, as well as volunteer Mohd Firdaus Pompeyo Abdullah.
