KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 9, 2026 – The Semarak Kasih Menjelang Syawal programme organised by the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National Women brought smiles to the faces of 40 children from the mualaf and asnaf communities when they were feted in a warm and cheerful gathering at SOGO Kuala Lumpur here yesterday afternoon.

The event, which began at 2.30pm, marked the third instalment of the annual initiative organised by PERKIM National Women as part of its welfare efforts to support mualaf and asnaf communities, particularly in helping them prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Programme coordinator, Fatin Hamizah Ismail said the initiative allows the children to personally select their own festive attire so that they may celebrate Syawal with the same joy as other children.

She noted that the programme reflects the Women’s Wing’s continued concern for the welfare of mualaf and asnaf communities while ensuring they are not left behind in enjoying the festive spirit of Aidilfitri.

“We hope that this contribution will brighten the spirits of the children and make their Syawal celebrations even more meaningful this year,” said Fatin, who also serves as Women’s Development Executive of PERKIM National.

The ceremony was further enlivened by the presence of Tunku Puan Sri Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Chairperson of PERKIM National Women, who delivered a speech during the programme.

Also present was Dato’ Hajah Nurzarina Sepran, a member of the PERKIM National Women’s Council and Chairperson of the PERKIM Women’s Permata Ampang Branch.

The event began with welcoming remarks by master of ceremonies Nur Syahirah Musa, followed by a recitation of prayers led by Mohd Aizat Rosli.

In her address, Tunku Noor Hayati said the programme was not merely about distributing duit raya, festive clothing sponsorships and food baskets, but also symbolised the compassion and care of the Women’s Wing towards children in need.

“This programme is more than just the distribution of duit raya, festive attire and food baskets. It represents the compassion and concern of the PERKIM Women’s Wing for these 40 children.

“We understand that their life journeys may not be easy, but they should know that they are not alone.

“Our presence today is proof that the community stands with them, offering moral support and unwavering compassion,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to all parties involved in making the programme a success, including members of the PERKIM National Women’s Council, members of the PERKIM Women’s Wing Permata Ampang Branch and the management of SOGO Kuala Lumpur for their cooperation in providing the venue.

She added that initiatives of this nature not only bring joy to those being assisted but also strengthen ties within the community.

Addressing the children, she expressed hope that the contributions would brighten their Aidilfitri celebrations and inspire them to strive for success in life.

“With strong determination and continuous prayers, I believe each of you has the ability to transform your future and that of your families for the better,” she said, urging everyone to make Ramadan a month of blessings and Syawal a moment of happiness for all.

She also expressed hope that similar programmes would continue in the future so that more underprivileged groups could share in the festive joy of Aidilfitri.

Meanwhile, Dato’ Nurzarina in her welcoming speech expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute festive clothing sponsorships to those in need as a gesture of compassion and community care for mualaf, orphaned and asnaf children.

She said the initiative aimed to help them prepare for Aidilfitri so that they could experience the same festive happiness as other children.

The programme also served as a platform to bring the children together in a warm and friendly atmosphere, allowing them to share in the excitement of the approaching Syawal celebrations.

Nurzarina emphasised that welfare programmes such as these are crucial to ensuring that the well-being of mualaf, orphans and asnaf communities continues to be safeguarded.

“Community support is vital in ensuring they experience happiness and renewed hope as they celebrate Aidilfitri with joy,” she said.

Concluding her speech, she extended Hari Raya greetings to all present and prayed that everyone would be blessed with health and strength to continue their acts of worship and charitable work.

She also encouraged the public to continue supporting the welfare of orphans, asnaf and mualaf communities so that they would not feel marginalised and could celebrate Syawal with happiness and blessings.

During the event, Tunku Noor Hayati also presented duit raya contributions to 60 mualaf and asnaf children who attended the programme.

In addition, festive clothing sponsorships were provided by PERKIM National Women, while 12 tahfiz students from Madrasatul Quran Wa Sunnah Batang Kali and 12 orphans from Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Al-Barak received festive attire sponsored by the PERKIM Women’s Wing Permata Ampang Branch.
