PERKIM Visited Three Breast Cancer Patients
KUALA LUMPUR, 1 APRIL 2024 – Most Muslims were looking forward to Eidil Fitri – the celebration after a month-long fast.
However, Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) Headquartes was informed of three unfortunate reverts who were in dire need of financial and emotional support.
PERKIM Headquarters Education and Human Development Director, Madam Suariza @ Hidayah Mohammad, and colleagues Siti Munirah Sayed Mohammad Hamdan and Fatin Hamizah Ismail as well as Intern Aiman Zakwan Ariffin visited three new converts.
Farah Lillian, a Chinese revert, lives in PPR Kampung Muhibbah, Jalan Klang Lama. A breast cancer survivor since 2010, her cancer has metastasised to her backbone and kidneys.
This has caused her to be immobile and requires assistance to move up and about.
Her husband is the sole bread winner and her elder child goes to university while the younger is a secondary school student. Things became difficult when all of them are away from home.
Madam Suariza, as a representative of PERKIM, handed Farah some cash and food items.
The second visit was to an Indian lady revert, Nur Ain Venetha – a single mother to three small children and a breast cancer survivor.
In 2021, Nur Ain was involved in an accident which left her in a coma for two weeks plus a spine and left-hand injury. Later, she had to undergo an operation to remove a blood-clot in her stomach, which had resulted from the accident. In 2023, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Her situation worsened when she lost her job and her husband walked out on her.
Jobless and with three small children to support, she was at her wits end.
Fortunately, members of a mosque nearby learned of her plight and provided meals during Ramadhan.
Mosque officials and Lembaga Zakat Selangor are working together on how Nur Ain can receive immediate and on-going financial assistance. For the time being, Siti Munirah handed Nur Ain some cash and a bag of food items.
The group went on to visit another Chinese revert, Nurul Huda Phuan, at her home in Flat Sri Kedah, Gombak. At 56 years of age, she has been suffering from diabetes since young.
Recently she was diagnosed with breast cancer but gets flustered whenever it is suggested that she goes for chemotherapy. What worries her most is the cost of cancer treatment which she can ill afford.
She minds her small grandchild while her daughter goes to work.
Fatin Hamizah presented her with some cash and a basket of food items.
PERKIM prays for their patience in facing their trials and tribulations and hope they will be cured of their illnesses soon to enjoy a brighter future.
