𝐊𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐀 𝐋𝐔𝐌𝐏𝐔𝐑, 𝟑𝟏 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – “We are grateful to Allah SWT for granting us the time and opportunity to gather in unity, with one heart and commitment to continue the direction and mission of the Muslim Welfare Organisation of Malaysia (PERKIM),” said YBhg Dato’ Dr Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar.

Dato’ Dr Marzuki expressed this after signing the Letter of Confirmation for the position of PERKIM’s Honorary Secretary-General at Level 5, PERKIM Building, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, on Thursday.

The ceremony served as the official platform for the introduction and handing over of duties between the new Honorary Secretary-General of PERKIM, YBhg Dato’ Dr Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar and the former Honorary Secretary-General of PERKIM, YBhg Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Noor, who has contributed immensely to one of the country’s earliest da’wah and welfare organisations.

In his inaugural address, Dato’ Dr Marzuki conveyed his gratitude to Allah SWT for the chance to unite PERKIM’s community in an atmosphere of brotherhood.

“Today, we gather not only to mark a leadership transition but also to reaffirm our unity in continuing PERKIM’s mission in da’wah, welfare and education.

“With one tone, one voice and one work culture, Insya-Allah, we will sustain the continuity built by the former Honorary Secretary-General and Honorary Treasurer,” he said.

He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to Dr Yusof Noor and Dato’ Abdul Hanif for their invaluable contributions in elevating PERKIM as a respected da’wah organisation at both national and international levels.

“Myself and PERKIM’s Honorary Treasurer, YBhg Datu Haji Mersal Abang Rosli, accept this trust with humility following our appointment by the Premier of Sarawak, who is also the President of PERKIM, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg,” Dato’ Dr Marzuki added.

Dato’ Dr Marzuki also reminisced about his early involvement with PERKIM, particularly through his service in Harakah Islamiah Malaysia (HIKMAH) in 2008, which is an affiliate of PERKIM.

He held the position of HIKMAH Secretary-General beginning in 2012 and has closely followed PERKIM’s development, including the leadership transition of PERKIM’s President from the late Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2006.

His extensive experience in various regional Islamic da’wah organisations has added value to PERKIM, including in his capacity as the Honorary Secretary-General of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), which is also headquartered at the PERKIM Building.

“RISEAP is a regional Islamic organisation focusing on minority Muslim communities in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Its mission is to foster understanding, cooperation and the sharing of best practices.

“I believe PERKIM and RISEAP can forge a strategic synergy in various areas,” he added.

Dato’ Dr Marzuki also expressed his aspiration to expand collaborations with PERKIM’s two main educational institutions: the PERKIM Kota Bharu Islamic Da’wah Institute (IDIP-KB) and the PERKIM International Islamic Da’wah Institute Kuala Lumpur (IDIP-KL), to further strengthen human capital development among new converts and reverts.

The event also witnessed a meaningful moment when Dr Yusof Noor handed over the official letter of appointment for PERKIM’s Honorary Secretary-General to Dato’ Dr Marzuki, marking the formal start of the new leadership on 1 August 2025.

As a token of appreciation, Dato’ Dr Marzuki presented a special certificate of appreciation to Dr Yusof Noor for his outstanding service and dedication throughout his tenure leading PERKIM’s administration.

Meanwhile, Dato’ Abdul Hanif handed over the letter of appointment for PERKIM’s Honorary Treasurer to Datu Mersal, followed by Datu Mersal presenting a special certificate of appreciation to Dato’ Abdul Hanif in recognition of his past leadership and contributions.

The ceremony not only marked a new chapter for the organisation but also highlighted PERKIM’s noble tradition of honouring past leaders and welcoming new ones with wisdom and respect.

Upon conclusion of the official ceremony, Dato’ Dr Marzuki and Datu Mersal, together with PERKIM’s leadership team, proceeded to IDIP-KL for a meet-and-greet session with PERKIM National’s staff.

The event was further graced by the presence of PERKIM’s Vice President, YBhg Dr Haji Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.

During the session, both new figures were introduced to the officers and staff from various units including administration, finance, da’wah, welfare, women’s affairs, public relations and others.

The visit concluded with a luncheon held in a warm, casual and familial atmosphere.

This reflected PERKIM’s core values of togetherness and appreciation for each individual’s role within the organisation.

The luncheon also celebrated and acknowledged the dedicated service of two esteemed figures, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Noor and Dato’ Abdul Hanif Harun, who have long carried the trust of leading PERKIM.

Dr Yusof Noor also expressed his confidence that PERKIM National’s staff will continue to extend strong support and cooperation to Dato’ Dr Marzuki to achieve PERKIM’s da’wah mission, Insya-Allah.

He added that PERKIM is expected to continue strengthening its role as a bastion of faith, a guidance centre for new converts and a respected Islamic da’wah platform at the national and international levels.

Also present were PERKIM’s Assistant Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg Datuk Mohamad Nordin Ibrahim; Director of PERKIM’s Asset and Development Unit, YBhg Dato’ Haji Ahmad Mustafa; PERKIM National Senior Da’wah Director, YBhg Dato’ Haji Razali Haji Shahabudin; IDIP-KL Director, YBhg Tuan Haji Mamat Che Chik; PERKIM Executive Working Secretary, Zulkefli Arifin; PERKIM Communications and Media Unit Director, Firdaus Lokman Tah; as well as RISEAP officers and staff.
