PERKIM National Aidilfitri Celebration Gathers 250 Converts, Strengthens Bonds of Brotherhood

KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 31, 2026 – The Aidilfitri celebration organised by Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) National brought together more than 250 converts from diverse backgrounds in a vibrant gathering held at the Level 1 Seminar Hall, PERKIM Building, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, here today.

The event was emceed by PERKIM National Media Executive, Firdaus Lokman Tah alongside Da’wah Executive 3, Nur Syahirah Musa and commenced with an opening prayer led by PERKIM Federal Territory Executive, Ustaz Mohd Jogi Panjaitan Maruli.

Honorary Secretary-General PERKIM, Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar, was also present to celebrate with the converts, who represented various ethnicities including Chinese, Indian, Punjabi, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, Bidayuh and Dusun, as well as participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. Their presence reflected the beauty of diversity within Islam and reinforced the spirit of unity among the ummah.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Global Unity Network (UNITY), and Seruan Islam Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan (JAM’IYAH).

PERKIM also extended invitations to tenants of the PERKIM Building, including PERKIM Federal Territories Division, the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sentul District, Yayasan Taqwa MAIWP, the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), the Malaysian Da’wah Coalition (GDM), the Allied Coordinating Committee of Islamic NGOs (ACCIN), and the Malaysian Islamic Da’wah Publishers and Distributors Association (PEDIM).

In his address, PERKIM Vice-President, Dr. Haji Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah reminded Muslims not to be carried away by the joy of Aidilfitri celebrations, but to continue praying for the well-being of Muslims worldwide who are facing conflict.

He stressed the importance of unity among Muslims regardless of sectarian differences and urged continuous prayers for affected Islamic nations.

“Even as we celebrate, let us not forget our brothers and sisters who are being tested. Pray to Allah SWT for their victory and safety,” he said.

Meanwhile, PERKIM Vice-President, Datuk Haji Mohd Nakhaie Ahmad extended Aidilfitri greetings to Muslims, particularly new converts, expressing hope that all would continue to be blessed with peace and stability while appreciating the harmony enjoyed in Malaysia.

“In a world still facing numerous challenges, we in Malaysia are indeed fortunate to celebrate Aidilfitri in a peaceful and grateful atmosphere,” he remarked.

Datuk Nakhaie also presented festive contributions duit raya from PERKIM Federal Territories Division to more than 100 converts.

Another PERKIM Vice-President, Ustaz Haji Muhammad Fitri Abdullah, reminded Muslims not to neglect the less fortunate during the festive season. He also apologised for any shortcomings on the part of PERKIM and pledged continuous improvements in its services.

PERKIM Honorary Treasurer, Datu Haji Mersal Abang Rosli emphasised that Aidilfitri symbolises victory after a month of self-restraint during Ramadan, urging Muslims to use the occasion to strengthen unity regardless of background—whether converts or born Muslims.

Also delivering remarks was PERKIM Vice-President, YB Dato Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim, who called on Muslims to forgive one another and to continue praying for the well-being of Muslims globally, including those in Palestine and Iran.

The celebration was enlivened with a wide array of traditional Aidilfitri dishes such as lemang, dendeng daging, nasi himpit, satay, nasi hujan panas, chicken rendang and detox beverages.

The event also marked the arrival of PERKIM Vice-President and Head of PERKIM Women, Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajjah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, who later toured booths set up by the PERKIM National Islamic Classes (KPIPK). The booths featured a variety of offerings including cendol, dim sum, bakso, curry noodles, cakes, spring rolls, fried rice, Thai salad, somtam, fruit rojak, wade, sandwiches and assorted drinks.

Competitions such as traditional attire (local and international), best booth and best food were also held, drawing enthusiastic participation.

Tunku Noor Hayati presented electrical appliances as prizes to the winners of the women’s traditional attire competition, with Noor Azlina Abdullah emerging as champion, followed by Wani Saleha Abdullah as runner-up and Siti Fatimah Yusof in third place.

For the men’s category, prizes were presented by Ustaz Fitri to champion Iyas Abdullah, followed by Mohd Firdaus Pompeyos Abdullah and Muhammad Hemnan Abdullah.

Dr Ridhuan Tee presented hampers to the best booth winners, with KPIPK Intermediate taking first place, followed by KPIPK Basic and KPIPK Advanced.

Meanwhile, Dr Shahidan Kassim presented hampers to the best food winners, with KPIPK Basic emerging champion, followed by KPIPK Tahsin and KPIPK Special Guidance.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting and pulut kuning ceremony officiated by Dr Shahidan Kassim, Dr Ridhuan Tee, Ustaz Fitri and Tunku Noor Hayati, followed by a group photography session with PERKIM staff, bringing the celebration to a close in a warm atmosphere of festivity and brotherhood.
