Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang Family Iftar Strengthens Ties with PERKIM

KUALA LUMPUR, FEBRUARY 28, 2026 – The Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang family hosted an iftar gathering that fostered closer ties with the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM) in a meaningful event held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara here on Saturday evening.

The event was graciously hosted by Tengku Tan Sri Azlan Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar, Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang, and attended by PERKIM Women’s Chief Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Also in attendance were Tengku Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, and Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Seri Jawahir Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, Tengku Puan Panglima Besar Pahang, alongside members of the royal family, PERKIM executives and staff, converts, the PERKIM Youth Council, and the PERKIM University Club (KPU).

The gathering was further enriched with a Ramadan tazkirah delivered by Pahang Deputy Mufti Dato’ Dr. Haji Badli Shah Haji Alauddin, who spoke on the dangers of envy as a root cause of human downfall since the beginning of creation.

In his sermon, he recounted the story of Iblis, who refused to prostrate before Prophet Adam out of arrogance, illustrating that pride and envy were the first sins committed in the heavens. As a result of his defiance, Iblis was cast out and cursed until the Day of Judgement.

He also highlighted the first murder in human history involving Qabil and Habil, which stemmed from jealousy when Habil’s offering was accepted by Allah SWT while Qabil’s was rejected.

Dato’ Badli Shah emphasised that envy is not merely a spiritual ailment but one that can разруш family bonds and lead to grave wrongdoing.

Elaborating further, he described Ramadan as the best “madrasah” for purifying the heart. While feelings of jealousy may be natural, he cautioned against allowing them to develop into destructive envy that breeds hatred and ill intent towards others.

He also cited a narration from Musnad Imam Ahmad, authenticated by Al-Hakim, about a man whom Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared as a dweller of paradise for three consecutive days.

The man’s distinguishing practice was not extraordinary acts of worship, but rather his nightly habit of purifying his heart—pardoning others and harbouring no envy.

Dato’ Badli Shah further underscored the importance of seeking protection from envy, as taught in Surah Al-Falaq, which contains supplications for protection against the evils of creation, darkness, sorcery and envy.

He noted that Prophet Muhammad himself had been afflicted by sorcery cast by Labid bin Al-Asam, and in a sahih hadith narrated by Imam Muslim, it is affirmed that the evil eye caused by envy is real and can bring harm by the will of Allah SWT.

Following the tazkirah, guests broke their fast with light refreshments before performing the Maghrib prayers in congregation, led by Dato’ Dr. Badli Shah, followed by the main meal.

The evening continued with the Isyak and tarawih prayers, led by PERKIM National Media Executive, Ustaz Mohd. Syahril Rosdi Ahmad Zahudi.

In his address, Tengku Tan Sri Azlan expressed gratitude and appreciation for the presence of guests, PERKIM members and converts who enlivened the gathering.

He said the event was not merely an occasion to break fast together, but also a platform to strengthen ukhuwah (brotherhood) and plan future welfare and dakwah initiatives.

Meanwhile, Tunku Noor Hayati conveyed her appreciation for the invitation extended by the Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang to PERKIM members and converts.

She also prayed for continued good health and well-being for Tengku Tan Sri Azlan and his family.

Tunku Noor Hayati, who is also PERKIM Deputy President, said the organisation, together with the PERKIM Youth Council and PERKIM University Club, would continue to play its role in nurturing capable future leaders for religion, nation and country.

At the close of the event, she presented a PERKIM plaque and a token of appreciation to Tengku Panglima Besar Pahang before a photography session was held.
