PERKIM Revert Single Mothers and Fathers Receive Zakat Wakalah From DAS-2

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 JUNE 2025 – The Asy-Syakirin 2 Fund (DAS-2), through its zakat wakalah programme, presented zakat contributions today to 10 revert single mothers and fathers under the care of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM). The symbolic handover ceremony took place at the PERKIM National Headquarters, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, at 3.00 p.m.

PERKIM’s Honorary Treasurer, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Abdul Hanif Harun, in his address, expressed appreciation for DAS-2’s trust and concern towards PERKIM.
He also conveyed warm regards and gratitude from PERKIM’s Honorary Secretary-General, YBhg. Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Yusof Noor, to the Board of Trustees of DAS-2 for their continued commitment to this charitable collaboration.

According to Dr Rafiza Mohamed, the Social Welfare Executive of the Asy-Syakirin Fund, the ceremony was part of DAS-2’s latest initiative under the newly branded Asnaf i-Single Parents Programme, a noble effort focused on providing aid to underprivileged single mothers and fathers, including reverts.
She was accompanied by Mr Haji Mohd Amer Peter Abdullah, representing the Asy-Syakirin Fund.
Dr Rafiza explained that 200 asnaf recipients have been identified this year, with 50 of them being revert single parents under PERKIM’s care.
She added that this handover marked a continuation of the collaboration between DAS-2 and PERKIM, which last year saw a total of RM625,000 distributed to 625 reverts nationwide.
“This year, we introduced a new approach through the branding of Asnaf i-Single Parent, focusing assistance on asnaf single parents who are increasingly burdened by today’s economic pressures,” said Dr Rafiza.
She noted that the current national inflation rate for the cost of living had risen by 1.7 per cent, leading to many single parents struggling to manage basic household expenses. Therefore, the zakat wakalah contribution is hoped to provide immediate relief and ease their burden to some extent.
She also conveyed the regards of the DAS-2 Board of Trustees to PERKIM and reaffirmed their continued support for inclusive welfare efforts.
Dr Rafiza expressed hope that this partnership with PERKIM would be sustained in the long term, as it not only strengthens institutional ties but also serves as a bridge for deeper Islamic brotherhood in serving the ummah.
She further emphasised that the initiative aligns with DAS-2’s goal to ensure zakat distribution reaches the truly deserving through strategic channels, upholding the principles of social justice and human development at the heart of contemporary zakat management.
The ceremony concluded with Dr Rafiza handing over a mock cheque of RM50,000 in zakat wakalah to Dato’ Abdul Hanif and presenting the contributions to the recipients.
Also present were PERKIM National Da’wah and Human Development Officer, Ustaz Muhammad Jais Mariappan Abdullah, and Nur Syahirah Musa.

PERKIM’s Honorary Treasurer, Dato’, expressed his gratitude for DAS-2’s concern and trust towards PERKIM.

Dr Rafiza stated that the Asnaf i-Single Parents Programme serves as an aid initiative for single mothers and fathers including reverts.
