Premier of Sarawak Inspects IDIP-KB Facilities, Notes Infrastructure Development Needs

KOTA BHARU, Jan 29, 2026 – After officiating the Islamic Studies Certificate Presentation Ceremony and presenting certificates to graduates of the PERKIM Islamic Dakwah Institute Kota Bharu (IDIP-KB), the Premier of Sarawak and President of the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (PERKIM), YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, conducted an official visit to the IDIP-KB campus in Taman Putra, Pengkalan Chepa, near here on Thursday afternoon.

During the visit, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari, accompanied by Yang Mulia Tengku Puan Temenggong Kelantan, who is also Deputy President of PERKIM, YM Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajjah Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, as well as PERKIM Deputy President YBhg. Dr. Haji Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, toured several key facilities of the institution, including the administrative offices, lecture rooms and the male students’ hostel.

He was briefed on the daily operations of IDIP-KB, its learning environment and the existing facilities utilised by students and lecturers.

The visit also provided an opportunity for PERKIM’s top leadership to observe firsthand the academic setting and student welfare, particularly in relation to the need for more conducive learning spaces and accommodation.

The visit marked Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari’s first official trip to IDIP-KB since assuming the position of President of PERKIM.

He expressed the importance of personally assessing the condition of the buildings and facilities as a basis for long-term improvement planning to ensure the sustainability of Islamic education and dakwah at the institution.

During the session, PERKIM Honorary Treasurer and Chairman of the IDIP-KB Committee, YBhg. Datu Haji Mersal Abang Rosli, presented the proposed site and development plans for the construction of a new male hostel and surau to Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari, while also outlining the urgent need for additional facilities in line with the increasing number of students.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari acknowledged the need for infrastructure enhancement at IDIP-KB, including the construction of a male hostel, surau and multipurpose hall, describing them as strategic long-term necessities that require comprehensive cooperation from all parties, including the state government and relevant agencies.

Earlier in the morning, during the 29th IDIP-KB Certificate Presentation Ceremony, he announced that the Sarawak Islamic Education Bureau would contribute RM1 million towards the development of a male hostel at IDIP-KB as part of efforts to support the welfare, safety and comfort of students.

Also present were PERKIM Honorary Secretary-General YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar; PERKIM National Administration Director YBhg Dr Suariza @ Hidayah Muhammad and IDIP-KB Executive Ustazah Noorsaadah Md Hanafi @ Md Zain.
